Is it just me or is Jeep dead? To me it started with dumping the Cherokee in 2001 in favor of the Liberty. (Side note the new 2008 Liberty is a reworked/refaced Dodge Nittro.) Now there is a Compas(Dodge Caliber), the Patriot (front wheel drive) And the bigger soccer mom friendly mini van V6 powered Jeep Wrangler.
A Jeep (I'm talking orig open air type vehicle) is a vehicle that when you take it off road one can hose it off inside and out. It is a vehicle that the owner can work on and modify him/herself w/out an advance degree in enginering from Brown. I'm not saying that the won't Wrangler be a good off vehicle. I just think that none off roaders shouldn't have such a big influence on how the JEEP should ride or if it should have all the creature feature as the H2 or H3( over priced Tahoe and Cayan).
Then there is Chryslers stupid "Trailrated" badge. Marketers suck! Is your Jeep better than my jeep because it has a badge? No! Its just a sticker!

Hi,

1.Are those automatic car wash reliable in Winter?

2. What happens if it doesn't dry the car completely?

3. Is it useful to wax the car?

4. I was also told to use a spray (some form of rubber coating) on the muffler. Please let me know the name of this product.

Thanks,
Brijesh

I'm wondering which sites one goes to when shopping for a used car on-line. I'd like to post ads about my car on the most popular sites. Craig's List, Yahoo Autos, Edmund's, and Kelley's Blue Book come to mind. Should I post on all of them? Is any of them the most popular?

My car was over heating constantly. I replace the thermo stat and now the only time it over heats is just when you are sitting still. checked the fan clutch it is still good. Also now the heater is going out. it will work if you shut it off and let it set for a few minutes. you turn it on and it will blow hot air for a couple of minutes and then you have to turn it off and let it set again. This really sucks since I live in the mountains and I have to leave for work at 4am. it is really REALLY cold.

I added what seemed like a bit of motor oil to my car yesterday and now I’m concerned I may have gone overboard. The total amount I added was only between 3 and 4 ounces…hardly a tenth of a quart. However, the reason why I say I’m concerned is because after I added this small amount, the level on the dipstick was a bit passed the line that marks “full”. I tried to keep this from happening by pouring a small bit at a time but because it’s the first time I’ve tried doing this (the car’s only 5 months old), I didn’t have any idea of how little it takes to fill up the reservoir.

Is this something I should be concerned with? Is the amount in question enough to justify having to drain the excess?

Thanks very much for your kind assistance and happy holidays.

There was a tv show "Hunter" in 80's featuring Fred Dryer as a detective Rick Hunter and Stepfanie Kramer as Dee Dee Mccall. Anyone knows the brandnames of Rick Hunter and Dee Dee Mccall's cars? Is a brake pad reading referring to its thickness?
If so, my dealer put 2 3/32 for my reading. What units are these in and is there a guide available somewhere that tells you at what reading to replace the pads?

I have a Yamaha FZR600R and a month ago fitted little neon lights. No problems there. Recently had heated grips fitted too. It went fine for 20 miles or so, then cut out on the motorway. No warning, no spluttering, just zero engine power. I pulled onto the hard shoulder and tried restarting the engine. The starter motor was very perky and the lights were on full beam i.e the battery was not flat - it just wouldn't start as if I had no petrol (full tank before you ask).

I called the RAC and the guy tested the battery. With the lights and hotgrips on there was only 12.7V at the battery which is one whole volt less than it needs. He jump-started it and it went fine (hot grips unplugged). Straightforward, right? Just too much of a draw and the bike runs at a loss?

No! This is the bit I don't understand: it wasn't just too much of a draw because this would have run my battery down but my battery wasn't run down at all - there was still loads of life left. Why is this and what can I do?
