I added what seemed like a bit of motor oil to my car yesterday and now I’m concerned I may have gone overboard. The total amount I added was only between 3 and 4 ounces…hardly a tenth of a quart. However, the reason why I say I’m concerned is because after I added this small amount, the level on the dipstick was a bit passed the line that marks “full”. I tried to keep this from happening by pouring a small bit at a time but because it’s the first time I’ve tried doing this (the car’s only 5 months old), I didn’t have any idea of how little it takes to fill up the reservoir.
Is this something I should be concerned with? Is the amount in question enough to justify having to drain the excess?
Thanks very much for your kind assistance and happy holidays.
