I have quite a few (about 12) old credit accounts that have been charged off to collections, and I would like to, sometime in the not too distant future begin to clean up my credit. If I were to pay off or settle on any of these accounts, who should I contact and pay? I am contaced by collections agencies for all of them, but all but one is still listed on my credit report under the name of the original creditor. I don't want to agree to pay a collections agency only for them to tell me, "Oh well we are only contraced by 'fill in the blank" credit card company, we don't have the authority to remove or change their listing." Anyone have some good advice for how I can make sure that any payments I make would acutally improve my credit?

I am currently just over 30 days past due on my car payment. Yesterday, a representative from my auto finance company called my mother (whom I listed as a reference on my finance application), told her that I am behind on my car payment and that I was going to lose my car if I did not contact their office immediately. Isn't this third party disclosure in the attempt to collect upon a debt and grounds for a lawsuit?

If so, what state would I have to pursue this lawsuit in? I live in Arizona, my finance company is based in Utah and my mother lives in Georgia.

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone knew the answer to my question..... If you pay off some of your total balance by debit card through the website, will that amount come off my minimum payment that has to reach them by the 17th? Or do you have to pay through the bank/post via the giro slip that comes with your statement each month? Im not sure this has come out right, I hope you can understand what I mean!!
Thanks x

Yesterday my boyfriend and I went to carphone warehouse to upgrade his phone. The guy that served us was really pushy and was rushing through everything and not giving us a chance to think. He convinced my boyfriend to start a new contract. He put the credit check through and he said it would take a while. Whilst we were waiting I realised that he hadn't asked for our address but the guy said there system was all up to date and he had photocopied my boyfriend driving licence as ID so we assumed he had checked the address. The credit check passed and my boyfriend was just about to sign the contract but realised it had his old address on. The guy said that's ok we'll just credit check you again on your new address! I told him not to and explained that every time he credit checked us he was lowering our credit score and he just credit checked my boyfriend on an address that he didn't live at so really that is fraud! We didn't let him credit check us again.

What should I do now?

I have several items on my credit report that the credit bureaus will not remove after I have submitted proof? How does a person take these credit bureaus to small claims court to recover damages and change (remove) bad items from the credit report? Do I need an expensive lawyer or can this be done by a layperson? What is the cost of this and I live in California, USA? Thanks

i just think that if people go bankrupt they should still pay something towards there debt even if its a small amount. At the end of the day they got themself in that postion and should still pay at least something. Anyone agree or disagree?

I was watching breakfast tv this morning, and I was shocked to see the interest rates charged by stores compared to credit cards.Do you use store cards? I had one in the past but paid it off, then cut the card up.It would be so easy to get into a financial mess with these cards. The staff at the stores are always trying to get me to have one, but I refuse.Have you ever ran up huge debts with a store card? Did you manage to pay it off?

I no longer have a renter and am concerned about my bills. I know enough to pay the most important first, i.e., mortgage, utilities, auto, etc. The key is that I am not sure I will be able to keep up with my credit cards. I only have two but they are large balances. One is American Express, $5800., and a Mastercard, $3000. What happens if I am unable to pay? I own my own condo and make mortgage payments and need to keep my car. Any sugestions.

I don't have the greatest credit & have a couple credit card debts I want to get rid off. I received a letter for both of them today and if I can get them paid off by the end of the month, the debt will be removed from my credit report.
Is it possible to get approved for a small loan, maybe 2-3 thousand dollars with a less than perfect credit score?
I'm really eager to fix these stupid financial mistakes I made as a teenager...

Thanks!

I've been sent a court summons notifying me I am being sued by Capital One. I've been told I need to send a letter, an "answer to complaint". I have no idea as to how to write one, or what should be included. I'm not willing to pay this company anything I don't have to, as they've repeatedly tampered with my credit history, and refused to send me any proper documentation accounting for what I supposedly owe.
