I was in the process of combining checking accounts with my fiance. A check that I had written out of my account for auto insurance apparently wasn't immediately cleared like it always has been, it took a few weeks. In that time, I had moved money into her account, put both our names on it, then closed the one that I had. After that, I got a notice that the check had bounced, and I ended up having to pay a fee because of it.

A bookkeeping error on my part, and I take responsibility for not triple-checking that all transactions had been processed. I've never missed a payment before, this would essentially be my first offense.

How will this affect my credit score, if at all, and how might this affect what kind of loan I can get on a mortgage?

I've read alot about building credit and I've read that your credit score is calculated by FICO which increases your score depending on how many on time payments you make and decrease on how many you miss. It also decreases it if you apply for too many credit cards and do other little things like that. So does having more credit cards increase your score as long as you dont have an outstanding balance? or does it lower it? If you have a credit card with no balance does that lower it the longer you have it without using it?
I know this all sounds confusing but I'm new to all this and I just recently applied for so many cards which was probably bad. I finally got a few and I wanna make sure I approach this correctly to build credit without going in debt or screwing myself over like many people.
Any info/tips on this topic would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!

My husband has a card with (limit is $2,300 balance is $2,005) a 29.99% so the finance charges are $55monthly, and the minimum payment is $74 so l have started to pay the monthly plus the finance charges to try and get ahead instead of just the minimum as i was doing before. I would like to get a new card with lower apr% but his credit report isnt the greatest because he has a pre-forclosure short sale derogatory trade on his report, his mid fico score 2 months ago was 631 so his credit isnt horrible but that short sale is hurting because he cant seem to get approved for anything! not even with our own credit union! He makes gross income of $3600 so we have good income just bad report. My mid score was 662 2 months ago, but I have a 27,000 car loan with monthy payments of $540 and income of less than $500 a month. So I know i wont qualify for a credit card even though I get great pre-approved deals in the mail everyday, i know my score is decent but my income isnt. Anyone have advice?

I have a credit card debt of $995,called the collectors & asked them if i could make a monthly payment but the associate i talked with offered to give me $780 to settle the debt,so of course i jump at the offer, but i told her that it'll have to be on my next paycheck since i don't have the money right away i gave them a check with my routing & checking account # ,so then comes the day, that they were suppose 2 take it out of my checking account,i waited past the days,2 to 3 days, then a week & a half.so by that time i needed the money to pay my rent, food,& 4 my toddler.so i used it & then a few days went by, a message from my bank informed me that a returned check was made due to insufficient fund(of course it was insufficient i used it since the collection agency didn't take it off my bank, i needed the money), i called the agency & spoke with the same woman & she wasn't really nice & didn't want to renegotiate wants me to pay it as we agreed.

approved for the loan with no problems. Does that meant that I have good or at least decent credit?( the car I got was 2006 kia Rio and I pay $280 a month if any of that matters)Now I plan on trading my car in at the begining of the year and I do have more forms of credit and have been pretty good about paying my bills and car loan on time so could my credit have possibly gotten better? and would I have a better chance getting a car that was a little more expensive? I know that nobody on here can give me a definite answer without knowing my credit history but I was just wondering if anybody new a little about credit and could tell me something.

I have a VISA credit card with $2000 credit line. When i signed up for it, the APR was very low. However, in the past month i went over the credit line accidentally and didn't know about it.

So i got fined $40 for going over the line and then my APR skyrocketed to 35%. It more than tripled only because i accidentally went over $2000 in the last month. I do not have health insurance so i used my card for medical treatment of bone fracture when some car hit me and didn't stop even though i was standing on curb.

I now see that the minimum payment became like $200 all of a sudden. Before it used to be that minimum payment was never more than $15 to $20.

Based on this kind of increase, i will never be able to pay anything more than minimum payment.

Why was i not told that if i go over credit line then APR rate will explode?

Also if accidentally for first time i went over, due to medical emergency shouldn't the visa credit card company be considerate enough to forgive?

I'm pretty new to the whole credit card thing. I currently have a WaMu credit card that is interest free until January 2008. In January, the APR will be Prime Rate + 23.74% . My balance as of right now is $1269.69, but should be around $1000.00 by January. What I want to know is how much interest will I most likely pay during January & February. I'm using our tax refund to pay the balance off in whole - not the best for credit, I know. Thanks!
