Paying it would clear up the debt, and stop the calls. If you can't pay it all at once you might be able to set up a payment plan.

I believe it is against the law for them to continue to call you if you tell them to stop. Send registered letter and tell them to stop calling you. They can still send you mail but you can throw it in the trash. Make sure that your debt is not time barred for collection. Good Luck

I would try looking up a credit counseling agency such as Consumer Credit Counseling Services. They can act as a go between and not only try and get the phone calls to stop, but they can also attempt to lower your payments. They will also help you with money management skills and setting budgets. It may seem like a lot to have to do, but I found that it was helpful.

Most cities have free services that deal with money issues. Go see one and they have methods to stop the collection calls.
