credit cards in the last 2-3 months you will most likely have to pay those debts off in in full.. Does that mean over the 3-5 year time period? Because of money being so tight we have had to put everything on a credit card.. But I am gainfully employed so I dont need to file for a chapter 7.. But I just read the part about if you have run up your credit cards you have to pay them in full so I was curious about what that means

I am filing for bankruptcy. My wife is not on any of the debt (except for a CC I will be paying and cancelling). We live at the same address. Will her credit cards be cancelled if they are in her name only? Just because the address is the same? Informed answers only please.

Somebody stole my credit card but I don't want to cancel it because he spends a lot less money than my wife does.

Ok I just turned 23 but when I was 18-21 I did some REALLY stupid stuff w. my money. I overdrue a checking acct by 272 dollars and it was reported to Chex Systems, and I owe about 4-6 different places money that I think have referred me to credit bureaous. For the past year and a half I have been making a consious effort to pay my bills on time and have been doing great but have no had the money to go back and pay off all my debts that have went to collection. I tried to get an auto loan and was not approved. Basicaly, I need a general idea of how credit works because I have no idea. If a bad debt is on ur credit report for a certain time and its not paid does it ever go away? can anyone help? Am i able to repair this or have I ruined myself for life at such a young age? *please dont leave any comments about how i am screwed or really messed up, believe me i already know what damage i have done*

I'm working on downsizing my debt, and I've done well in my opinion over the last 8 months or so. Several of my credit cards (I know I shouldn't even have this many open) have zero balances. I'm not worried about the temptation of using them because I've been good with that. I know this is a subject of controversy, but should I close some just to simplify things, or leave them open for credit history? My fiance and I will not be buying a house for at least 4 more years (when we're both done with grad school and can figure out where we'll be looking for long-term jobs). No other big purchases, i.e. car, as we did that last fall. Here's the deal with my credit cards:

Retail Store Cards
$500 limit, opened July 2003
$850 limit, opened May 2003
$1000 limit, opened April 2003
$200 limit, opened July 2001
$400 limit, opened December 2001

General Credit Cards
$1500 limit, opened March 2004,
-->10.99% interest rate after promotional 0% ends July 2007
$2000 limit, opened May 2006
