I got a letter from the credit card company after I applied to them and they say they need to speak with me in person - I cant figure out why they'd need to after I gave them all my information. Is it just so they can reject me and take some sick pleasure out of doing it over the phone?

I have about $9000 in debt. In the last year I had to make alot of my payments late because money was tight, so my credit rating plummeted. I have a lump sum of $16000 coming in a month & will pay off my balances. Which option will improve my credit score the best - 1) Pay them all off in one flailing swoop 2) Take 4-6 months to make payments consistently to pay them off+

Here's an example.... If somebody dies in 1978, and in 2003 somebody gets this person's SSN (you can do it through many websites. www.net-detective.com for example...) and uses it. Let's say this person applies for credit (credit cards, etc) and gets approved..... what happens with this SSN? Does it report to the credit bureaus? Can the cc companies know this is not the real person?

I filed in 2001. I disputed my bankruptcy and a lien with all 3 credit bureaus.
Transunion removed the lien not the bankruptcy
Equifax removed the bankruptcy and not the lien
Experian wouldn't remove neither one.

Now i know once you dispute an item the creditor has 30 days to respond or its removed from your file how can i get the others removed or do I just have to wait it out

If one bureau remove it dont the others have too.

If you need quick cash and you only have a credit card, will the bank allow yo to extract cash from your card? If they do, how much will they charge you for doing this?

I am confused. We are in a financial mess and need to make amends now. If we only pay a portion of our debt by making arrangements to pay an agreed upon amount instead of the original bill, will that hurt our chances of increasing our credit score? I was told we really need to pay what is owed and not the reduced amount the card issuer would settle for.

this is my situation.Im 27 and I've accumulaterd about $15,000 (this includes late fees & finance charges) on 5 different cards, all credit cards. I could never afford to pay anything because of my low paying job.

Now I am getting paid more, so I can put aside a few hundred dollars a month to start paying them off but since there with different agencies i feel this might be difficult.

All these debts are now with collection agencies, its been exactly 2 years since I made my last payments on the credit cards, so they've been with the CA for about 1 year and a half. What is the best way for me to work this out? should i go to credit counseling and have them try to reduce my debt and be able to make one payment each month? should I try to contact the collection agencies and work with them? or perhaps contacting the credit card companies themselves and see if i can settle that way?

Thanks for in advance.

I recently had a baby in july of 06 and ended up moving in with her dad. All the while I had been renting an apartment (lease started in 3/06, ending 3/07). Not knowing that it is mandatory that I keep the electric on, and being that I am never there, I let the electric Co disconnect. About two weeks after(10/24), my landlady called me to advise that me electric had been cut off and that I have to have it on. She told me that there is a 7 day eviction notice hanging on my door. I've always paid my rent on time and followed all the rules. I told her I didn't know that my electric had to be on and that I had no way of paying to get it turned back on until after the 7 days, she said she couldnt do anything about my situation. I've actually wanted to move out because that rent $$ would be extra $$ in my pocket, but I don't want to leave on bad terms. If I pay my rent for 11/06 and get evicted will my credit be ok? or am I obligated to pay rent til my lease is up?

My credit card company sent me a notice that they're changing my balance transfer fee maximum from $75 to $250. I use balance transfers sometimes, so this is bad for me.

They said in the notice that I can "opt-out" and reject these changes, but at the end of my membership year, they will CLOSE my account and I will have to "repay the balance under the current terms."

I'm not even sure what that last part means. Sounds like they will close my account and I'll have to pay the final balance? Also, if they close my account, won't that hurt my credit score?

Not sure if you have to pay but need confirmation. In addition I have not received anything in the mail but have not returned their call. I do not owe any debt at this time.
