I unfortunately managed my credit poorly while in college, and now, over 10 years later, I am slowly trying to repair my credit. In addition to student loans, I have two credit cards in collections that I owe over $2000 total on. I also have a phone bill that has been in collections for 4 years (over $400) that I have not paid. They recently sent me a good deal to match payment dollar for dollar, essentialling cutting my debt to them in half. However, I heard that utilities are not a detriment to your credit score - collections or no collections. In prioritizing what gets paid first and what will help repair my dismal credit score, should I put the phone bill on the back burner compared to keeping my student loan up to date and pay off those two credit cards?

I am receiving bills/collection notices from other than the originating lender stating they now represent the loan and wanting to collect. The original loan was about 9 years ago and as stated above was "charged off" 8 years ago. What is my obligation now?

I'm 23 and I got my first credit card at 19. I use credit cards for the rewards and always pay off the balance in full. I have one mastercard and one visa.

My question is how much would it hurt my credit score to close the visa account in order to replace it with a different visa card with a better reward policy?

I don't forsee myself obtaining a loan or anything like that in the near future.

I have tried everything no one will approve me of a credit card, loan, nothing. I'm not in school so I can't take out a student loan. I've even tried applying for store credit cards that offer real high interest rates but still I get disapproved. How can I build credit if I can't get it? Can anyone give me any ideas as to what to do or know of any places for sure who will approve of me with no credit.

I just signed up for a company that offers great coverage, and I also checked with other companies and they were the cheapest as well. you sometimes get more than what you pay for.

After a car sales lien, the funds raised from selling the car, does it go to my finance company or does it go somewhere else? So if i owed $20,000 to the finance company, but the car sales lien raises $18,000, would i still be responsible to my finance company for the whole $20k or 2k?

I don't have any credit at all. I never have. I've never had a credit card, don't owe anyone a dime. I've thought it was a good idea to pay for a lot of things in cash so I wouldn't get into debt. But now it would be handy to have one and pay it off - to have some credit. I've applied for many, many cards and even tried through my bank and been turned down. Not because I have bad credit - but because I have none. I rent my own apartment and have an open account with a cell phone carrier. I paid for my car in full- upfront - so that's out. Any suggestions?
