Do banks and other creditors also generate their own credit scores? Or they use the one provided by the 3 credit beaurus? I was told by a bank that they pull credit report from 3 beaurus and apply their own formula to arrive at the credit score which they show as that from credit beaurus. Then my question is why are 3 credit beaurus required to calculate these scores. Appreciate, if I get a real expert and authentic answer.

I currently live abroad and work with US firms paying me in private checks drawn from US banks. A few days after depositing each check, my bank pays me for it. However, I was told by my bank that a check can actually clear in the US bank from a few days after being sent to the US bank, to up to 5 years from issue(!!!), this means that a check can bounce even a few years after issue, in which case the sum i was paid would be taken out of my account, plus %interest. Can it be that international banking is so inefficient that my bank doesn't get acknowledged that the check was cleared, and the check can "stay in limbo" for years? Should i really worry for years, or a few months after depositing - i should be safe?
(To all those who answered my prev Q: Thanks! Your answers helped me ask my bank the right questions, and limit the unknown to this question only.)

Here's the story: My dad is rich, but irresponsible. Without my permission (he has my social security number), and when I was only 18 years old, my dad put a very expensive motorcyle in my name because he didn't have enough credit at the time. He is rich, but buys so much stuff every month that he runs out of credit. So I had been paying a monthly fee os $300 every month for 7 years now, and in exchange he gave me my car. The creditors for some reason had my dad's new wife's information, instead of mine, and apparently, back in March, the creditors found out my Dad hadn't insured the cycle, so they added an extra 160 a month for insurance. My step mom lied and said she was my real mother, and that she would alert me that the payments had changed. She did not. Now, 6 months later, my credit has been wrecked with 3 30 day delinquent payment notices, because I didn't know about the extra fees. What do I do? Steal the cycle and return it? Sue him? get him arrested? Help!

My brother has borrowed a lot of money over a few years, but as a family we do not know what his financial standings are. We do know that they're not good, because he's a terrible liar, and won't tell us the truth. He asked me to fix his computer last month, having left some open web pages on declaring bankrupcy (and a few other hair-raising things in the history). Needless to say, we're concerned, but I'm also concerned for us. Will what he does concerning money ever affect the family name, or just him? My mother has had an excellent credit history over 15 years, but recently she discovered that her credit limit has dropped to £0. She has contacted the bank about this (as she was not informed), but we think it could be related to my brother as they both use the same bank.

Answers and advice would be appreciated.

I used two credit cards which have now decided because I was late on one, that they both would increase my rate to 30%. My balances are extremely high, and I do not know what to do. I have only charged a total of maybe $15,000 but because of the interest I now owe over $30,000 in only two years!!! I dont know what to do because I work on commission and I can only pay the minimums. If I got another job, I would not make enough to pay the minimums plus rent, bills etc. Does anyone know any ideas on how to get a loan to pay off the cards. I wouldnt even mind a loan for 15% if it got me out of the credit card mess. I feel like suing the card companies, I dont think they should be allowed to charge you more then I charged on the card. At this rate, I will be in debt $40,000 by April. What can I do? I dont want to do a Debt Reduction company, because I dont want to hurt my credit score. Even though I made on time payments, my finance charges are higher and go over the limit!

I'm just curious. In the past I found my birthdate to be listed wrong, previous addresses I had never lived at, open accounts that should have been closed, and I charge I didn't owe. The charge I didn't owe was $30 for some magazine I never ordered or received. I ended up paying the $30 to get it off my report as I was unable to get the dispute resolved. That one made me mad because I hadn't be sent any bills or anything for it, it just showed up on my credit report!

I know having too many is not good for a person's credit score and looks bad to those checking this credit. But not having any credit (such as cards) is not good either. So is it best to have more than one card?
