There are credit cards for students.
Another option are secured credit cards.
You don't need a job for these any of these and will help your credit if you are responsible.

You can apply at any time. A credit card is granted based on your credit worthiness, which is a measure of your ability and willingness to repay debt. Your income will be part of that equation. The more you make, the higher your credit line may be.

Be aware that using a credit card is making a promise to repay a debt, and failure to do so within the terms of the card will quickly have a negative impact on your credit rating, and likely cause a very sudden increase in the interest rate you pay on the credit card. Read the terms of the account very carefully, and be sure you understand them. Do not sign any application that you don't fully understand or agree with. Your not understanding something like that could get you into a lot of financial hot water quickly.
