You have to call each credit reporting agency to tell them that the debt is from 7 years ago. They'll take it off as long as you haven't made any payments on it during those 7 years.
As for the collection agencies, my advice is to just ignore the mails and phones calls. Eventually they will give up. If you pay them anything, the debt will appear current on your credit report and collections will come back even more aggressively.
Your debt is 7 years old and it's not your responsiblity anymore. That's the law.

Go to naag.org and look for your state, that will lead you to your attorney generals website, find out what the statue of limitations is for debt, for the state the debt was incurred in and if different the state you are in now. If the statue of limitations has expired, then tell the collectors that it is a time-barred debt, and that it needs to be removed from your credit report. Visit the FTC website and it will give you more info on dealing with creditors and time-barred debt

Pay them off a little at a time! This will be good for your credit anyway. Call the collection agency and ask what thy would be willing to settle for and if you can work out a repayment plan.
