I told my boss that I will be leaving at the end of October and, after the initial shock, he has become so demanding that I can hardly breath. He wants me to finish 2 projects, write everything up and pass most of what I wrote so far to him.

In particular I have put together a Grant Application with my own ideas, my research, my effort, and now he demands I pass it on so that he can apply.... Am I right to say that this is my Intellectual Property?
Thank you

In the past the last few jobs I've had they didn't check references. I have no good professional references because all the managers I have had, I never kept in touch with. Places I worked for went out of business or the managers quit and we didn't keep in touch. I have a job now but it's very little money so I applied for something full time again. A managerial position and they called for an interview the very next day. The interview is this weekend and I would love to get this job but I am concerned about the references issue because if they can't check references other than friends and one old co-worker is that a strike against me for the job?

At 26 and with 2 B.A's i can't get a job interview in the Schaumburg/chicago area to save my life. I left CA and a pretty good paying career to start a new life in Illinois. Ive been here for about 3 weeks but havnt found ANYTHING. i apply to all kinds of stuff...even basic office work. nothing. I have experience supervising, presenting, writing, etc. etc. I've always gotten a job offer after every interview i've been on. i just cant get a damned interview! =( so today i just applied to macy's out of desperation. got the job today as well. and start tommorow at $9/hour.

I'm a little depressed about my life right now. But hopefully things will pick up.

anyone out there having a rough time looking for work?

I have 16 years of experience and cannot make more than 8.00 an hour. I have a 16 year old co-worker that was offered 12 for the same position. The reason my manager gave was because the other person was saving up to buy a car and he was helping her by giving her more money. I am a single parent and have never made more than 13000 a year. I cannot survive like that. This is driving me nuts. My nephew just got a job in my same area of work for 15.00 an hour. None of my jobs have offered me that kind of money. Why and what can I do about it?

So here's the deal: I was hired on August 1st at a Native American health clinic, trained for 4 weeks, started my acutal job as a manager at the beginning of September and was there for 3 weeks, and was fired last week. Their reason for firing me was "Job duties not being accomplished through company's guidelines." my boss would not tell me exactly what I did wrong, nor did she counsel me AT ALL after my training. This is was all after THREE WEEKS.

As a manager I came up with new policies and procedures, I made sure everyone took their breaks, and fill out their time cards. Also I was training in one city but I worked in another, due to the building being remodeled for a year. I felt that I was doing a good job, coming up with better ways for everyone to do their easier, and my boss knew this. Anytime I wanted to change something, i would present it to her.

So why would she fire me after 3 weeks?

I was with the company for about 4 years. Last year I got promoted. At the same time I was given a new supervisor. She was the supervisor from hell. She expected me to be working downstairs but wouldn't give me a desk. My office was upstairs and whenever I would go upstairs she would run to the director acting like she couldn't find me or I was late. She was even telling other staff that she was going to fire me. I did everything for the company. I did everyones work. For 3 months I was trying to transfer but she wouldn't forward my transfer papers to hr. I contacted hr but they never got back to me. Then one day I got in like 5 minutes late. She fired me. She was a witch.
I loved my job...what can I do? My co-workers even wrote hr a letter asking them to re-think my termination. They expressed what good worker I was and how my supervisor had it in for me. But I was unsuccessful.
I honestly want nothng more than my job back. Is their any legal action I can take to do this?

if i applied at a job 2 weeks ago, and submit another application today at the same job (except this time i answered the optional questions about race, gender, and let them verify previous work histories) from 2 weeks ago, will the employer keep the first application and discard the recent one or keep the recent application and discard the first? or will they consider hiring me based on the first application and disregard the second application, vice versa or both?

Well I just came back from the orientation... I have to go in 3 days of this week for training. I AM REALLY NERVOUS.

My position is a line cook, basically making all the sandwiches and salads... she gave me 2 booklets of food items that I should get familiar with. This is like my first time doing a job like this... I AM SO SCARED that I might screw up. How do cooks memorize 20+ items??? I don't know how I'm going to do it... (I'm starting to think more realistic).

I start tomorrow... but now my nervous thoughts are getting to me and I feel like I don't want to work there, even though I really need the money... I don't know what I should do!!!

I may have an opportunity to work for JP Morgan, making around 90k a year with a bonus. I was planning on going to business school, mainly to get a job in investment banking or something like this. So, I think if I could make good money in this job it might be unnecessary to go to business school now. I'm only 24, so I think this job could help me get into a better school down the road. Also, I have a ton of debt from school already, so with this job I could definitely pay that down if not off. Advice?

Regarding my job -- I started 2 years ago at $11/hr. After 90 days, I was given a raise to $12. After 1 year, I was given a raise to $16. In my most recent yearly raise, it went up to $18.75/hr.

However - consider this: I'm 38 and this is an office job. I just got engaged and have a degree although not for what I'm currently employed to do. I also drive an hour to and from work each day. The job is pretty easy (probably because I do it very well), but they micromanage and there are rules like no eating at your desk, no cell phones, no breaks at all (except a 1/2 hour lunch), no sick days or personal days. One week of vacation, 2 weeks next year.

Truthfully, it's an easy enough job to me but I'm not feeling fulfilled at all. But jobs in the field my degree is in (arts) are low paying and non-guaranteed. I feel like I should stay, but won't ever be really happy here. Should I just tough it out or should I look elsewhere?

and if so, what would u say when the question of how much money you made in your previous job comes up. i hate this question and learned by reading a book "How To Say It At Work" that it is not mandatory that you answer this question. by answering the question you can either lowball or price yourself out of the job. so you're really at a disadvantage to answer this question.

employers already have a pay range in mind when interviewing you. of course they want to pay at the lowest in the range if possible. in the book it says it is a perfectly acceptable answer to say "what is the pay range for this job?" "i'd like to think my past experience and what i can offer at this job/company is what my pay should be based on, not what i made before".

i guess if the company liked you they would accept it. if they they didn't they might use that as an excuse. either way i don't think it would be a deal breaker if you chose not to answer their question. what are your thoughts on this?

My Dad was a salesman (good one) for over 40 years. He is very smart, but has real bad hearing and needs ideas on what kind of a job he can do to supplement his social security. He drives doctors to clinics now for a security company but hates it 'cause it is so boring and only pays $8.50/hour. Any ideas that are not sarcastic would be appreciated.

I ask this question before at the small business section but was unable to get a solution.

I would like to ask how does a person get back into the workforce as an employee after failing as an self-employed?

Mainly because at the interview stage, a self-employed is viewed with doubt that he/she will want to work under someone else. Anybody care to share their experience?
