At 26 and with 2 B.A's i can't get a job interview in the Schaumburg/chicago area to save my life. I left CA and a pretty good paying career to start a new life in Illinois. Ive been here for about 3 weeks but havnt found ANYTHING. i apply to all kinds of stuff...even basic office work. nothing. I have experience supervising, presenting, writing, etc. etc. I've always gotten a job offer after every interview i've been on. i just cant get a damned interview! =( so today i just applied to macy's out of desperation. got the job today as well. and start tommorow at $9/hour.

I'm a little depressed about my life right now. But hopefully things will pick up.

anyone out there having a rough time looking for work?

Have you marketed yourself? What means are you utilizing to locate the preffered jobs you are after? Is your location stifling your growth because of the demographics for the region/area? Does your resume highlight you yourself or just your academic accomplishments? Is there a temp agency to place you in your field of work or that can find work for you in your field? Scour the internet for information and leads it is the INFORMATION SUPERHIGHWAY utilize it for just that. And fluff up your resume, make yourself look like someone you would hire to run your multi-billion dollar company. Not just someone over-qualified with book knowledge and little experience.
Post your resume on Monster, read the local newspaper ads, network with people of high positions in your field. Goto social gatherings and market your talents to potential job leads. AND stop being depressed! Keep a positive outlook, your depressed state could be blocking the light at the end of the tunnel. Best of Luck in life.

Congrats on your new job. I know how you feel. Two years ago, the best job I was able to get was a receptionist job working for $7.50/hr. A lot less than what I was used to. But, don't despair, just pay the bills. And while you are paying those bills online, try searching for a few freelance sites. Market yourself on a freelance site based on your skills, and see what types of projects you get. If that picks up, and you are able to match your Macy's salary or do better, then you can give Macy's a two weeks notice and work from home. I listed below a couple that I have found during my search for an at-home job. (Of course, I can't get one of those either. Maybe I'll go work for Macy's as well. lol)

Well kinda, sometimes you have to lie a little bit....to some extent. Like if they ask you a question, and the answer isnt a answer they want to hear, youre either going to lose the opportunity to get the job or youre going to say something they want to hear. Lying isnt good, but sometimes if its not harmful and not going to hurt anyone, its not that big of a deal.

So you went to college and got 2 degrees but ,
Did Not do your advance homework about the midwest / rust belt ?
How did a college person Not know about that ?
And you left a well paid career without doing the advance interviews ?
I though it was common knowledge , you NEVER quit a job until you have secured one .
Why didn't you do the interviews while you were working ?
Employers prefer to hire working people over unemployed .

I am beginning to think college is all book learning and
NOTHING about real life .
