I have 16 years of experience and cannot make more than 8.00 an hour. I have a 16 year old co-worker that was offered 12 for the same position. The reason my manager gave was because the other person was saving up to buy a car and he was helping her by giving her more money. I am a single parent and have never made more than 13000 a year. I cannot survive like that. This is driving me nuts. My nephew just got a job in my same area of work for 15.00 an hour. None of my jobs have offered me that kind of money. Why and what can I do about it?

For the person that asked...I have 16 years of retail experience, 12 as a manager. I work more hours than the other employees and no, I don't ask them what they make. Being kids, they talk too much. I am 10 years older than my manager and all they do is talk about what they did the night before and so and so's bf or gf. It is ridiculous. I have an Associates degree and am working towards my BA but that is just part time since I am working full time and a full time single parent.
