My college career is at a stand still AGAIN... I just don't know ... I guess college is not right for me... I have been in college since 2001... first studying Medicine (I got into a 7 year program where you get your BA and MD), then I had personal crisis that forced me to leave (i really didn't want to study medicine. it was more like the thing to do in my family.) then I went back to school and ended up majoring in Political Science (again, something I wasn't really into). Then, for not even a semester got into History. That didn't last. And this summer I tried Math and I just don't have the Math skill I used to have.

Sigh...

There is one field I know I really always liked. And that is computers. I was taught myself this or that and loved to mess with my computer. I even self-taught myself some basic C programming and currently messing with Python and Linux. Majoring in Computer Science at this point is near impossible because of my finical burden.

Can I get a job in computers?

If you could have ANY job/career possible what would you chose to be? Why?

Personally, I'd love to be an Astronaut. I’ve always been interested in space, stars and whatever else is out there.

Your at a job now that is 36,000 a year paid semi weekly with only medical insurance, no dental or vision, retirement, 10 days all together for everything (sick, vacation, etc...) IIn two months it makes a year of you being employed with the company. It is 20 minutes away from your house.
Then you are offered a job at 38,000-40,000 a year being paid bi-weekly. It has full medical, dental and vision, tuition reimbursment, 2 weeks vacation, 10 sick days. 45 min away from your house.

You might find this funny, but I have no idea what to answer if the guy interviewing me asked "So, why do you want this job" or " What made you decide to go for this job " ....
I wont freak or anything, but I might stutter.

Any heads-up answers regarding types of questions that could be asked in any interview (regardless of the career) & the 2nd question I just wrote down.

Very thankful in advance.

I went into a family video store to rent a movie and over heard a converstation between a girl putting a job application in and the manager. The conversation went something like this. (man.) What times are you able to work? (girl) I'm free pretty much all the time. (man.) How old are you? (girl) I'm 18 believe it or not. (man.) and you really don't have any work history? (girl) no I really don't. (man.) ok well we will be calling people by 5pm on fri... so all that isn't really what got me mad it was after the girl walked out, the manager turns to another co worker and says put her name on the list and highlight her yellow, I would say highlight her green because she has no work history but she's cute, and seemed to have some kind of personality so highlight her yellow. I went to the counter and here is this list of those who have applied two marked green and one yellow. Maybe I'm wrong but I thought it was illigal to put ANY markings when dealing with job applications?

No, I'm not scared (as in he is mean, loud, rude or obnoxious), but he is very inteligent and although I do a good job and he keeps telling me I do, I sometimes feel less as smart and tend to be very quiet around him. How can I get over it!?!?!?

I'm 18 and considering getting a job working for a company that installs air conditioning. My dad is freaking out that I won't stick with it and stuff but I really want somebody else's opinion/expierience. The pay is great and so are the benefits. Is it hard work?

..and it sucked. Some of you may have seen my previous posts about all the problems I have encountered in my job (which is fast food by the way) and the rude co-workers I was with. Well, I had about enough of it. I went to talk to my manager today, in my uniform and all, to tell her that I want to quit and my reasons for it. She didn't even really want to hear WHY I was quitting, which I found a very poor choice. If she doesn't listen to why her employees are quitting, what's that going to do for future business? (others have considered quitting too). She was all like "This is really late notice, you could have at least called earlier." and I HAD called this weekend, but she wasn't in. I also had set up an appointment to talk to her about my concerns a couple weeks back with another manager..and either he never told her about it or she totally ignored it. Either way, they didn't care or take me seriously. I offered to keep working this week, but she just made me leave. What do you think

I applied at a very Large Corporation. Everything went perfect, I was even told they stopped interviewing candidates after my interview and offered me a position, sent an offer letter and I was getting my background check.

When I applied, I hadn't updated my resume. It had a past date for my degree, but my degree was still in progress. I told the woman who interviewed me, and I emailed everyone who was in charge of my case that this was incorrect.

I got a call today that they are rescinding the job offer due to discrepancy of dates on my Degree. Had I put a future date, or no date it wouldn't have been an issue.

I just emailed the recruiter and the hiring manager my updated resume along with a note stating that I was still interested in any available positions should they come up.

The Recruiter responded almost right away with "Not a problem, thank you so much for your follow-up.
Good luck on your job search and have a great week!"

Do I have a shot? Or is my mistake too big?

Nashville does have SOME design work, but not alot, and they usually want 10-15 years experience. I have been freelancing since graduating 3 years ago, and doing data entry as my main source of income. Monster.com lists a bevy of graphical jobs in and around orlando, and strangely, alot of it is entry level and still pays more than the jobs in nashville requiring experience. My print media skills are very good. As is my digital video skill. Web design skills are better than average, but my coding I am working to improve. I also have some 3D modeling skills, with 2d and 3d animation, but it's not Disney-Pixar quality, by any means. I am also bilingual, speaking good Spanish. Do I stand a better chance in Orlando?

Its causing me a lot of stress and I have become ill as a result over the last few weeks, especially as many of my colleagues have had their shifts changed. So far I have been fobbed of with excuses such as; 'you are the only one left with enough experience to support the new management team' and 'we don't know what to do with you yet'. I have had three new managers in as many months and the term 'chocolate teapot' just about applies to their ability to resolve the situation. I am considering quitting over this but may lose out on a potential redundancy payment which would be quite high as I have been there a while or asking my doctor to sign me off with stress as I feel that bad about it. I am torn though as I feel very loyal toward my employer. Any suggestions on the next step.

I see so many jobs advertised for PA's that require a PA to book travel arrangements. The thing is, I live quite a sheltered life and although I currently do secretarial work, I've never flown or been abroad and wonder if this may prevent me from being able to do these duties. I've no idea about planes, flights or countries. Do you think this may hinder me from getting on?

although i am still young, i would like to do greater things with my life. i would like to know what training is necessary to become a member of either local, state, or federal search and rescue teams? where can i get this training? and what are the prerequisites? and what type of job can i get? i have already had extensive safety and emergency response training, so i doubt the course would be too difficult, but is there anyone who is a current or previous member that can tell of your experiences, tips for the job, and possible carreer fields?

thanks everybody.

This issue is a great source of frustration for me. I only have a vague idea of what i like. Whenever I have tried to pursue something I was refused the opportunity to even train for upgrades. Perhaps I'M just looking for someone or something to give me a tiny idea of what to do.

Education in high school was very difficult due to problems with my parents. It is due to past experiences that I would like to get professionally involved in the addiction's industry.

My question is what kind of careers could i possibley train for to effectively treat addictions both mentally and physically?
