Those rules may vary by state. Also are you seasonal part time help, ie only planning to work during the summer? If so those rules are different than regular workers.
And are you part time or full time?
I would not worry too much about the rules, and yes they can fire you for any reason they want, it is called employment at will. Even if they were in a grey area as far as administrative rules, they would just say they no longer needed your services or find some other reason to let you go. Is this a real problem for you, ie you are missing a bus or have a ride waiting for you? Talk to your manager and simply go over the situation. The first thing you need to say is that you dont mind working over, but they can not just assume you can stay without asking you first.

wells before you work there should be a schedule from what time to what time your shift is. And if your shift is 8 hours long then it's eight hours, they can't make you stay later just because they want to. I had a friends to worked at jack in the box and it's a tough job and usually the managements there don't respect their employees. So look for a new job, like a host at some restaurant or something instead of that place.

All depends on wats in ur contract (if you have 1) if u dont have 1 you should get 1, if you get paid for the extra time its also a hard 1 so maybe talk to ur boss about it if its in ur contract that u only work 8 hour shifts they cant fire you, but if its in your contrct that you maybe required to do some overtime then thats a hard 1 too good luck with it

I don't think it is illegal, unless you are under 16 and are getting paid for it. If you are depending on a ride and that is making them wait, then you need to talk to your manager about it. Why are you running late? If it is because you still have things to do, then you need to try to work faster or manage your time better. If it is because another employee is running late for their shift, it is really not your problem and you need to tell your boss that you don't mind occassionally helping out by staying a few minutes extra, but not all the time.

Tell them you need to be out on time because you have other personal commitments. (If those other commitments are commitments to yourself to watch tv or whatever else, so be it, you aren't lying, and it's none of their business what those commitments are since you technically aren't scheduled then anyway.)

Can they fire you? I don't know. They are the one who scheduled you when they did, if they needed you a half hour later, then they should have scheduled you to start a half hour later than they did so you could still work a full shift and cover that extra half hour...sounds like they are just taking advantage of you because you're a minor.
