Careers & Employment - August 2006

I am starting my first "real" out of college job on September 1. My cousin is getting married on Sept 23 and I am in her wedding that is out of town so I will need to be at the rehearsal 4 hrs away by 6PM on that Friday. I don't have any vacation time until 6mo. so I am not sure what to do as I can't miss the rehearsal. Should I tell my boss I had prior plans that are super important and I can't get out of them? Or should I "leave sick" that day? I don't want to be dishonest! Help!

I lost my job at subway two months ago. I was only working there for a week and then my boss tried to fired me but I quit so she wouldn't. she was a b*tch and up to now I still can't get over the fact that I want to let her know this and that it wasn't fair for her to let me go. what should I do?

I have a B.A. in Art History from one of the best colleges in Virginia. I have applied for a museum job, but they never called me for an interview. I would like to apply to grad school in the near future, but I need to study and take the GREs. In the meanwhile, I need to get a job, preferably related to art history and museums. I have checked local organizations but have had little luck. Does anyone have any good ideas? Serious answers only, please!

I'm a preschool teacher, and I'm now hoving an issue with one of the parents. For you to understand you have to know the whole srory. Me and her used to be friend. We hung out ALL the time. She then started some mess with me and another parent. Well me and the other parent worked it out. I havent spoke to the parent that caused the drame since June. So now everyday since she's claiming that her son is going home saying that I called them Crazy. Her son is not even in my class and I dont see him for about 30 minutes out of a day. We now have a meeting on Friday. How should I handle the situation? I would love to curse her out, but she wants a reaction from me and I refuse to do it. So any suggestions on what to do?

My ultimate goal is to become the manager of a successful hotel. I need lots of information - what classes or courses do I need to take in high school? What is the most prestigious college that offers courses in hotel/restuarant management? What is the yearly salary of a manager of a four or five star hotel in the state of Maine? If anyone is (or has been) a hotel manager and has pros or cons to list, it wold be greatly appreciated.

What is a way to access more training when managers don't want to communicate with you, even though they 'say' they do; until a mistake is made? They were excited about my attitude on offering employment and now have stepped back. I want to offer the best service. They must see potential and I am learning. Only been there about 2.5 weeks.

I'm being fired from my job as a clerk for 'theft'.

I've never stolen anything, i know everyone likes to play innocent, but i really have never stolen anything.

They claim to have video footage from the survellance cameras that show me stealing, but they won't let me see the footage.

I havn't signed a termination notice yet, because i want to see the footage...i know i didn't steal, why are they doing this?

What can i do to fight it? Its a private matter, and i know my chances of a civil case are quite slim...but what else can i do?

My bf can't get anyone to hire him because of his criminal history. We're going to be having a baby in January and he can't get work ANYWHERE to help support our little family. I've been wrking @ this dental office for about 3 months and everyone is realy nice & my dental is covered @ 100%. But monday i have an interview @ another dental office, i don't know how much they'll pay but i hope is more than what i'm making right now.
