Be honest and up front. Tell the person that hired you that this was already planned before you came for the job interview and that you're sorry you didn't make mention of it at the interview. But offer a way that you can make up for missed time perhaps something that you can do at home in your spare time on weeknights or the weekends.
I'm sure your boss will be very understanding if you're honest.

You know as well as I do that you probably knew about this wedding when you interviewed for this job. Them, when you were offered the job what you should have done is tell them that you had this prior obligation and was it possible to take a half a day and perhaps work an evening or Saturday morning to make up for the time or just go without being paid for that day.
It isn't too late, perhaps, since you have not yet started the job, to call your supervisor and ask if it were possible to have the day off without pay so that you could be a part of this family wedding. You must apologize for having forgotten to mention it when you first interviewed with the company.

Tell the truth Let your boss know that you have to do a 1/2 day because of a wedding that you are in.
I had started a new job on a Monday, had an out of town wedding on that Saturday that I needed to fly out on Friday. I told my boss right away before I even started. I worked for that boss for 5 years.
Your boss will be thankful for your honesty. As other have said, offer to work some extra hours or expect the time to be unpaided.

Tell your boss that you have to go to your cousin's wedding and you need to leave at noon that day and ask him if that would be ok. You may even suggest working a few extra hours here and there. If your boss has a problem with that, look for another job.

You probably had better lie about being sick. Bosses are notoriously unsympathetic with regard to anybody having a personal life. Except themselves and their superiors at the company, of course. The CEO can take off and go golfing, and claim that it was "work" because he took a contractor with him. Heh. You try it, and see what happens. Yeh, as long as the suits cheat, the shirts may also cheat... the inequality of power simply means that the shirts will have to be sneakier (with lies) when they do what the suits do out in the open (with hypocrisy).

tell your boss in advance ..and remind him more often as the time approaches ...bosses are only human ..they know people need time off ..they get upset when a person takes time off with no notice ...but do offer to make up any lost time if thatr option is avaible for you ....just be honest ..since you dont start till september ...try and tell the boss now ...and also on the first good luck with your job

What is your role in this wedding?
Can you avoid it if you are unable to take time off from work?
If the wedding is important to you, voice your concerns to your supervisor/boss and ask them to help you with the solution, whether it be working extra hous on the days immediately preceding or following rehearsal.

Tell the truth and tell it now. Explain that you have made a commitment to be part of a wedding party and what time you will need off in connection with it. At worst, they won't pay you for the time you take off.

That is plenty of notice. Just tell the truth.
Most bosses are very experienced with lying employees
and hard to fool. Prove you are responsible and honest and things
will go smoother for you and your job.
