They want friendly and competent. You show that in your interview, the job is yours! But keep in mind, they will also need someone with open availability.

Think about the last time you visited a hotel or B&B. What things were important to YOU when you interacted with the front desk manager? You probably wanted your questions answered pleasantly and promptly, a smooth check-in and check-out, and the confidence that any problems you may call the front desk about will be handled quickly and with a smile.

Share a recent example of a hotel stay with the interviewer, and what you liked/disliked about the front desk. A hotel manager will be looking for someone who understands the utmost importance of customer service. Share some examples of difficult customer service situations you have handled with ease (i.e. customer with a complaint whom you satisfied.)

At a B&B, you may be expected to help out in other areas, so focusing on your flexibility will also be important. (Share some examples of times where you helped out in another dept. during a busy time, etc.)

Lastly, you may be handling money there, so honesty will be high on their list. If you have any experience handling money, or confidential files, etc., make sure you bring this up.

Most importantly, SMILE and make good eye contact! This will be a major part of your job duties should you be hired. Good luck!

Wear a nice dress blouse with pants or a skirt, closed toe shoes (NO SANDALS OR FLIP FLOPS). Conservative makeup and jewelry. When you sit, do not cross your legs. Sit with your feet crossed at the ankles, and legs to the right. Hands nicely in the lap, and sit straight and erect. Answer all questions as "yes" and "no." Avoid saying "yeah" and "like uhmmmm...." Please make a concerted effor to avoid saying "Like," when describing yourself or your work history. Practice tonight in front of the mirror. Make sure when you shake hands that you avoid the "dead fish" limp, dainty handshake. Shake hands with a little squeeze, with purpose and give strong eye contact. If you are interviewed in an office and are sitting with the interviewer and another person of importance enters the room and your are introduced to that person, make sure you stand up before shaking their hand. That also applies while you are sitting in the waiting area, waiting for your interviewer to come and greet you. Stand up as soon as they introduce themselves, shake hand and strong eye contact. Make sure in the interview that you do not reveal any personal information about yourself. Sometimes, we get confused when the interviewer states "tell me about yourself?" This is the time that you state what you have been doing professionally. If you have never worked before, discuss your academic and extracurricular activities. If they ask what your strengths are, state them. Perhaps mention that you enjoy solving problems, working in a team environment, your customer-service oriented and you have an outgoing personality. And if they ask what your weaknesses are, be careful of stating "my weakness is that I work too hard." A more appropriate weakness would be something you really have trouble at, and what you are doing to fix it. For instance, my weakness in the professional environment was that I had to learn that there was more than one way to go about accomplishing a task. Therefore, I devoted time to group projects. Take a clean copy of your resume with you to the interview. They probably already have one, but take another. If the b&b has a website, read up on their company history. Sometimes the interviewer will ask you "what do you know about our b&b?" It would help if you know when they opened, major events there, etc.... You'll do great, and I have no doubt you will get the job. Good luck.

Dress conservatively. If you are a guy wear a suit or a long-sleeve shirt and nice pants with a belt and tie.
If you are female, wear something that isn't tight or revealing. You could wear a dress or skirt that comes down to your knees or close to the knees. You could wear pants that aren't tight.
In general, if you don't have suit, you could wear clothes that would be appropriate for church or other religious places.
If you wear earrings, make sure they are no bigger than a quarter. Don't wear a bunch of necklaces. If you have facial piercings take them out if you can. If you have tatoos, try to wear clothes that will hide them.
If you are female and have long nails, consider cutting them and painting them clear or a neutral color.
Don't wear too much cologne or perfume.
Right after the interview, mail a thank-you note to the person who interviewed you. Write a little about specific things you discussed and how you would be a good choice for the job.
Ask the question again, telling us if you are male or female and what types of clothes you have so we can help you decide what to wear.
I almost forgot; don't wear gym shoes if you can help it. If you are female, wear heels or nice flats.

I'd think good manners and friendliness would be very important. Make eye contact, listen attentively, and be prepared for a question about how you'd handle a difficult or unreasonable guest.
