My ultimate goal is to become the manager of a successful hotel. I need lots of information - what classes or courses do I need to take in high school? What is the most prestigious college that offers courses in hotel/restuarant management? What is the yearly salary of a manager of a four or five star hotel in the state of Maine? If anyone is (or has been) a hotel manager and has pros or cons to list, it wold be greatly appreciated.

There are two well-known HRM (hotel restaurant management) programs you need to check out: Cornell (NY) and University of Houston. Houston's program is younger but they both have a great reputation.

To get there you really need to just take a full high-school work load- there are really no special class requirements beyond doing well. Your life will be easier if you take as much math and English as possible since you'll have to take some basic courses in your first year.

Plus, go work in a hotel as an internship if possible so you can see if you really will want to work in that environment. Like a lot of fields, it doesn't tend to pay well right away but you can do well if you work your way up to better hotels.

you need to write down the key questions you would like to have answered. You also need to be sure to ask if the manager has any advice in addition to what's already been said. If you send a survey, leave a blank area (or an entire page) dedicated to this. Remember to include a letter/note of thanks!!!

I reccommend you place a call to hotels that meet your requirements and ask if the manager will take some time to answer your questions. If need be, you can always say it's for a school assignment. Then ask to schedule a time to meet in person, or send a "survey" to be answered by a set date.
