First of all, your question is probably the most intelligent one that I have read on Yahoo Answers since I have become addicted to the site. I give you THUMBS UP for that. I can totally understand your emotions and his. People make mistakes and a situation like his could end up impacting his life forever. But, you cannot go back in time so you must move forward. My first comment would be for him to seek professional assistance whether that is counseling or job counseling or whatever. You can help him but don't do it for him. That will only lead to resentment. Get your yellow pages out and turn to the section called Social Service Organizations. The first call should be to United Way. They have a complete database of organizations that specialize in various areas. If that fails, just go down the list looking for an organization that may offer a hotline or group or ... whatever it takes! There is life after prison but he will need to address the issues which will give him the motivation to be an exception to the rule of failure. Be there for him. He needs that. If the Social Services idea doesn't work out, get him back to the prison counselors who have experience in what he needs to do. He's much better off being honest than lying about his background. You've got to respect him for being honest with you. Get him on the phone ... get him on the bus... get him wherever he needs to go... but get him motivated!!!

DON'T lie on the application. Not only will he get fired if he's found out, but then he'll have to lie twice on the next application - once about being a felon, and again when he's asked if he's ever been fired.
His probabtion officer should be able to help. He can't be the only ex-felon looking for work. It depends, as well, on what the felony charge was; people are more forgiving of some past mistakes than others.
Good luck; the fact that he's looking for work and wants to support you and your family speaks volumes. I wish you well in your pregnancy! I have a little boy who I wouldn't trade for anything.
And - please ignore the hard-hearted, shallow-minded bigots who tell you that your boyfriend and you are trash. He's paid for his mistakes (hence the term EX-felon), he's trying to do what's right for you and your baby, and frankly, everyone makes mistakes. People CAN change, so when you get negative crap, just remember that it's small-minded idiots spewing it.

How about something you can do together such as a home business? It's something that you can continue doing after the baby is born, and is not nearly as difficult as most people think it is. If you are both willing to give it a try, roll up your sleeves and get to work on it, you could be earning an income in excess of $10k/mo within a year. All you need is belief in the product, and we only market one, and be willing to get on the phone or talk to people about it. This is in the health and wellness industry, comes with a ton of training if you want it, is a product very much in demand...was featured in July's issue of Time magazine as the breakthrough superfruit of the year so people have heard of it.
I think once someone has paid their debt to society, they should be able to start over like anyone else. By investing less than $200, he could virtually turn his life around and start earning an income most only dream of. As long as he decides he really wants to do something different and is willing to dig in and do what it takes, I could lead him and yourself into an income that would have no limits. The more you work, the more you earn....this product is safe for expectant mothers as well as babies, so there is your start market right there!

Do you have a Sears in your area? I know they believe in giving people a second chance. Also, never lie on application. I know someone who did and they got fired because of it. The company would still have hired him if he would have been honest about his past. If someone is honest about something from the beginning it shows that you are more likely able to trust them.

Sometimes honesty is not the best policy. Tell him to lie about that on applications. No one ever checks and if they do, the worst that will happen is he'll get canned. No harm, no foul. At least he'll get a job. Or he could talk to his probation officer and see if they know how to help.

lie on the application. If he gets caught have him say "What do you expect I'm a felon". Construction might be a job he could do.
