I'm being fired from my job as a clerk for 'theft'.

I've never stolen anything, i know everyone likes to play innocent, but i really have never stolen anything.

They claim to have video footage from the survellance cameras that show me stealing, but they won't let me see the footage.

I havn't signed a termination notice yet, because i want to see the footage...i know i didn't steal, why are they doing this?

What can i do to fight it? Its a private matter, and i know my chances of a civil case are quite slim...but what else can i do?

I don't know how to make a new post, like, in response to everyone who answered me, so i will just update my original post with information.

I'm a white male, so its not discrimination, at least, in the sense that i understand it.

This is not a small business. It is a large chain of stores. I don't think i should say anything else, but it doesn't really matter anyway.

I can't afford an attorney. If i had that much money, i wouldn't be worried about being fired.

Fryemall, you were a big help dude, but i'm worried that i'm "damned if i do and damned if i don't". If i go to the agency you suggested, won't i be fired without reason, or for another reason, just so that my claim is dropped, or so that i can no longer bring the suit? Is it really in my best interest to go to your agency? (meaning, will they likely be able to help me?)

And yes, i am telling the truth...i honestly wouldn't care if it wasn't a lie 8(

This amounts to fraud and is one of the few times an employer can be sued for wrongful termination. To the best of my knowledge, all 50 states are "at will employment" states. That means they can fire you for any reason at any time. However, making a fraudulent claim is entirely different.

I would consult an attorney (get one from the local aid office if you can't afford one). If you're being honest, you could collect a nice sum from these guys.

You can contact the EEOC or the Department of Labor to ask them about filing a complaint through their processes if you can't afford an attorney.

Don't you even know one person who is an attorney, like a family friend who will at least do you the favor of sending them a letter threatening legal action on your behalf? Ask your friends/family.
Good luck.

Is this a small business? Call the corporate office and speak to someone higher up! You can call the better business bureau or the labor department and explain your situation, maybe they can help also all depends in which state you live in and what you signed when applying for the job!! Good luck...

If they're accusing you of theft and claim to have proof then you have a right to see that proof. If they still refuse to let you see their "proof" then you can always tell them you'll be contacting a lawyer for wrongful termination and defamation of character.

Call the labor board immediately to find out what your rights are. Sounds like discrimination.

Ask them to let you see the footage, or to let your attorney see the footage in court.
