you only get one life to live so you should make the most out of it. i would rather have average wealth and be happy than rich, stressed, and have no time to spend it.

A lot of studies show that money has very little correlation with happiness. In fact, the "happiest" country on earth is a third-world country in Africa. It seems that being healthy, living a simple, wholesome life with minimal possessions, and working hard while having enough time for family and friends is the key to happiness.
Many studies also show that the most satisfying jobs are those where you have to pay attention, but you don't have to devote your entire brain to the task. (i.e. factory work, sewing, typing.)
You can be stressed about your job and make good money, or you can be stressed out about money because your job (albeit satisfying) doesn't pay well enough to pay your bills.
In theory, a middle ground of a job that is gratifying and makes a modest income (enough to live a healthy, simple life) should be what to strive for.

I suppose it depends on what is important to you in life. If what you like to do in your free time costs a lot of money, then it's probably better to have the stressful job that makes a lot of money. If you enjoy aspects of life that don't cost a lot, then you're fine with the o.k. job.
The ironic thing is that often when people make a lot of money in high-stress jobs, they don't have enough time off to enjoy the money...

Well it really depends on what you want for your future. If you want to be rather weathy then work hard, and be stressed. if you want to live ok in the future then live compfortably now. I ask myself that very question quite offten. I work about 55 to 60 hours a week, I'm the manager of a bussiness, and I have a job when I come every day, and thats my family. I work hard, and I am stressed becasue its nice to say " hey I don't feel like cooking tonight, lets go out to dinner". Plus I want to be nice and wealthy when I retire. It's hard and sometimes I could swear its not worth it, but it is in the long run I promise!!:)

To make a lot of money does not have to be stressed.
An OK job usually does not enable one to live comfortably.
Quite often a job that makes lots of money can also be fun and a job that is easy does not give enough money and one can feel so stressed.

I see no reason not to have both! A lot of money and a less stressful job...it's what I do. You should never have to choose between the two, if you do you are putting yourself in a low-income mindset. Time to pick that up and take control of your life. I would be happy to show you how I did it.

Why be stressed at making a lot of money? You can learn how to make money work hard for you instead of you working hard for the money! There are all kinds of home based businesses out there that are truly incredible and life changing and little to no stress at all in the beginning. Then you'd be able to literally walk away and be done and watch your money work for you. Research! Check out companies and check w/ the BBB to see what they say about the companies you're looking at! I found what works for me and I love it!

Depends...if said stressful job lets you retire at an early age so you can work on whatever the hell you want, then go for that. Otherwise, do what's comfortable. You only live once, far as I know.

It's up to you. Having a stressfull job helps me appreciate the little things in life. Until I have a family, I'm going to work my **** off. Then later I'll taper off a bit since my family will be more important. I'm also building my 401k for retirement, so I look at the big payoff later when I can relax.

The eternal dilemma!
It may be possible to have job satisfaction and a decent salary.... but in an either/or situation, the job satisfaction would keep you happy in your job for longer but the top salary would help you retire earlier; and you'd need to because of the stress!
Sorry to be idealistic, but give me job satisfaction over salary every time.
