Ok so I'm starting to run to get/stay in shape to play soccer in High School. How many miles or minutes should I run each day? What stretches should I do before and after I run? I've only started to run each day for about a week and I think some advice might help because I seem to run and then get cramps in my calves and near my ankle. So I'm kind of easing into running right now. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I was not jogging before but when I did I found out that jogging burns fats in parts of the body like hips and buttocks which I did not feel that running burns them.

What is a good mid-distance training program for a sophmore in high school (I'm a girl too) to start training w/for track? I don't really want to run over a mile or two at a time either. What are some good exercises to stay conditioned during the winter ( I don't have a treadmill, or go to a gym, and it's too cold to run outside) Would it be better to start training now and lose some (or most)of my conditioning in the winter or should I just start at the beginning of spring?

What are some good exercises to do (preferably calstenics)to condition my legs besides running or weight lifting? My track coach said not to run bleachers because it hurts your knees. Is it really that bad for them???

I am considering joining the Leukemia and Lymphoma's Team in Training to run the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco in Oct 2008. I plan on starting in April of 2008 to train (I am currently deployed right now and can't train as much as I would like though I can train some!) I am a somewhat experienced runner (am in the army, so am physically fit). Is 6 months enough time to seriously train? I am able to train somewhat over here in Afghanistan but the altitude is killer so it is difficult to run more than 6 or 7 miles, along with the heat.

Additionally, I am not trying to win the marathon, just trying to finish it to support a great cause and for my own satisfaction.
Thanks!

i went running for the first time a few days ago. i walked half a mile and slowly jogged for about a mile (i lost count a tad bit) straight, no stops. i have not done anything physical since this fourth of july and before that, the last time i did anything too physical was since a year before. so did i do well for my first try at running? in case you are wondering, the running seemed easy and I stopped due to the fact my legs tired, i didnt feel out of breathe and in fact i felt great while running.

I was able to run up to an hour before but for the past 2 weeks I run 20 minutes and my left knee feels like it'll cave under me. I have good running shoes(new balance), i dont run very fast, i mean i pretty much just jog at 5mph for 40 min.
Please help, i love jogging and it sucks that i cant do it anymore. I can walk but i feel like im not getting any exercise even though i probably cover the same distance.

I've started trying to get into shape again, and I've been having trouble getting my running up to the speeds and distances I used to have.

I'm 20 years old, 5'5'' and 150 lbs. Not overweight, but hardly in shape. In high school, I played soccer, and could run a mile and a half in under 9 min. I've been neglecting my cardio for over 2 years now. The past 6 weeks, I've been trying to run about 3 times a week for 1.5-2 miles, but I've been noticing very little improvement.

The worst part now isn't the fatigue but the breathing. Far before my legs give out, I run out of breath and almost have to force myself to stop. I've never been diagnosed with any lung problems, I dont smoke, and this was Never a problem in the past.

My main questions are: Is this a common occurance for people who are trying to get back into shape? Is there any kind of exercise that will help with my breathing? And how much cardio is too much for someone trying to get back into a competitive form?

I just completed a marathon but I'm super slow, now I'm training for a half marathon. I'm hoping that I can dramatically improve my pace. What are good interval exercises, how many times a week, etc? Any other tips??

I have good running endurance, but I notice I can get my heart rate up much much higher (almost 200) and sustain it there much longer when swimming. If I consistantly do this, will it improve my running?

I'm going to be playing quite a few sports this coming year, and i want to get a move on with cardio and endurance exercises. I do a lot of strength exercises, like a lot of pilates, workout routines, and many others. But i can never find myself to do cardio or endurance enhancers.
Thanks
