I'm looking for the easiest way to drop some good weight off of my hardtail. Besides switching the frame, whats the next best weight saving options? Wheels are pretty expensive but an option. What about carbon seatpost, handlebars??

I get my exercise through bicycle riding, but I can only ride between May and September because of snow. I was wondering if anyone knew how to make a bike stand that would allow me to ride indoors year-round. Preferably something that is inexpensive and easy to make.

The cable that goes to the derailer is broken and I was wondering if anyone has a ball park figure of how much it is to replace something like that. It looks simple enough but the last time I took a bike to the shop for something simple they wanted to charge me over $100 dollars, way more than the bike was even worth.

For cyclists...what is your take on full fender sets compared to rear fenders that mount to the seat post? Do full fenders keep you considerable more dry, or just a little? Asking from a road bike perspective, wet roads and occasional puddles.

full fenders such as http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?SKU=11376&subcategory_ID=6700

Hi.
I'm 5'4" tall & weigh 153 pounds [11st 2"] & 52 years old.
I've bought a bicycle & have started to go out sometimes on it. My friend says if I could cycle about 15 miles a day [like build up to that amount] I could firm up my butt. Is that true & can cycling daily help to build muscles, if so, which muscles does cycling build up.
and how long would it take me?
Thankyou for help.

there are two little round things on my bike near the brakes on the handles. One of the round things has numbers 1 to 3 on it, and you can click a dial to change it from 1 to 3. The second one changes from 2 to 6. I know one is the gear, but which one? and what's the other thing?? thanks!

How fast do you bike? Top speeds? Average speeds, in relation to distance, and surface of ground?

Type of bike you ride?

How often you bike?

None of my buddies bike - pretty much no one bikes in my city. I want something to compare against, for goal setting.

On my heavy (35lb+) 21 speed mountain bike, I can only hit 49.0KM/H (30.4 Miles/H) (downhill, road), and for a 10 KM (6 Mile) ride, I can only manage a 22KM/H average (13.7 Miles/H) (road, hilly). Of course, I've only just started biking this season, so I'm a little off.

How about you?

Thanks!

i have a 2005 Rock Shox Reba Team, when i was installing it on my bike, i miscalculated the length of steerer tube and cut it too short. i have a 15mm spacer on it now and i want it a little higher but i cant because its too short. is there any way to get a longer one? can i send it to rock shox to replace it?

its installed and works fine, but i would like it about 10mm higher. no big deal if i cant get a longer one.

What are the advantages of this handle bar compared to a flat handle bar? Will 2.5 inches rise help put my back in a up right posture? Does this bar flex alot when riding or is it stiff like a flat bar. Thanks
