How fast do you bike? Top speeds? Average speeds, in relation to distance, and surface of ground?
Type of bike you ride?
How often you bike?
None of my buddies bike - pretty much no one bikes in my city. I want something to compare against, for goal setting.
On my heavy (35lb+) 21 speed mountain bike, I can only hit 49.0KM/H (30.4 Miles/H) (downhill, road), and for a 10 KM (6 Mile) ride, I can only manage a 22KM/H average (13.7 Miles/H) (road, hilly). Of course, I've only just started biking this season, so I'm a little off.
How about you?
Thanks!

Hey,
I am 31 years old and started riding agin about a year ago after a 15 year lay off.
i have a specialized tarmac comp road bike (about 7.5 kg). When i first started again i could average around 25kmh for a 2 hour ride. Now i can probably average nearly 40kmh.
i also started cruterium racing this year too, man what an eye opener. Those boys can really go! Great fun and excellent training too!
i ride to work everday (about 17 km) and ride at least one day of the weekend so in total about 300km's a week. My fitness has improved out of sight in that time.
As for fastest speeds, i have hit 90 kmh twice before (downhill), and on the flats have gone over 60 regularly.
Keep riding, you'll be surprised how quickly your average speed creeps up!!

I started riding a mountain bike off-road, then did a lot of riding it on-road, then finally got a Cannondale R6000 road bike. I averaged about 16-18 mph on the mtb. On the road bike I average more like 18-21 mph. On the mtb I could hit 30-35; but on the road bike I've seen 45 mph!
I try to get out at least three times per week. I've turned my back on the poor mtb cause I just love the spinning on the road bike and the speed. I am usually out for 1.5-2 hrs. I'm not especially fit, but the modern technology, especially on road bikes, makes it all go remarkably well.
Getting in with a pack of roadies changed my life! It's amazing how fast you can go with everyone helping -- the drafting works amazingly well and is very mentally engaging. 25-28 mph (flat road) averages aren't at all unusual. It's great fun and distracts you from the actual work you're doing. It also pushes you so you get in shape faster, making you a better cyclist. I did some of that even on the mountain bike. You can't really do it off-road though cause the trails and speed make it impractical.
There seem to be bike clubs everywhere that have regular rides, both on and off road. The internet can help with that. When I'm traveling I do a little research then meet up with them in whatever city.
BTW, the numbers on heavy bikes vs. light bikes show that it really doesn't make much difference once you're going -- it only affects things in acceleration and going uphill.

I'm 17 and I just started to try to ride seriously within the past 4 mothes, I have a Huffy 15 speed Mountain Bike(Yes i know it is a piece of junk). Its got 26" x 1 1/4 slicks on it. I ride to school and back every day. A round trip is about 10 miles. I try riding around another 10miles in the afternoon around 7pm or 8pm. My average is somewhere between 15mph and 20mph. I believe this to be descent considering it is a really bad bike. I'm currently trying to get a road bike so I can get my average up and improve my riding experiance. A typical week i will probrably ride between 70-100 miles total.

I've ridden 220 miles in 13 hours over a course with rolling hills, 1 climb about a mile long at a 10% grade. Shorter rides, I will average about 20 mph. Some downhill stretches I will exceed 45mph, but the potholes can be nasty at that speed.
I have a Trek 520. I ride every day. If the weather is bad, I ride on an indoor trainer.

I know this doesn't answer your questions, but here's some advice: Go buy some road tires (slicks) for your MTB. They're relatively cheap, lighter, can be run at higher inflations, and have less rolling resistance. You'll be amazed at how much faster you can go. REmember to keep them fully inflated.
There's no reason that you souldn't be able to maintain 20 MPH for 30 minutes by the end of the summer if you ride regularly and change your tires with a good high pressure road slick. Go to a bike shop for some tire advice.

I ride a Madone 5.9. Sunday group ride, it's like a road race. Complete with attacks, counter attacks, sprints. It's a little over 40 miles and we ride between 26-32mph this is a fast group with a lot of pro racers. Riding solo, I time trial on a cannondale ms2000 triathlon bike and on a flat 40k course I'll usually be able to crack the one hour mark, so adv. about 25mph. I've been a competitive triathlete and cyclist for about 4 years

i only have one bike - a 2007 Specialized Epic with cutom components that i built myself. i also use this bike for XC racing. it weighs about 28lbs. i use a Cateye cyclometer to figure all the numbers. on the road i can move about 20-25mph on average of there is not wind. my top speed sprinting is 33mph. going downhill, ive caught 42mph before.
i ride almost every day, unless it raining. i have a regular route that i take thats about 10miles. it takes me around 30mins to complete, if im feeling good. usually i like to just cruise around town, but since im a racer, i like to go fast. i put about 40-60miles a week.
i do a 15mile ride to my ex-gf's house once a month, among other long rides. sometimes i'll do a 20 -30mile ride in a days if im bored. i have a buddy that comes along with me sometimes.
the area i live in is very hill too. i live in a valley so theres lots of ups and downs.
so much joy!

Road, I will tend towards 20 -24 mph (nobbly tyres)(40 + miles).
XC I average between 15 - 18 mph (20 - 30 mile ride).
Giant XTC 4 SE + Panaracer Fire XC Pro Tyres (45psi) + Shimano 520 SPDs.
General advice. Keep fueled. Get a hydration pack and fill it full of an isotonic drink - SIS is good. + Energy bar and a pocket full of jelly babies.
Luck

highway motorbike for constructive. happening steep mountain extremely would not gage if the motorbike it swifter. The checklist for a highway motorbike is 167mph at bonneville, drafting. returned meaning little. in case you took 2 same riders and raced on a delicate highway the line motorbike might continually be a lot swifter. the main significant reason is the wheel and tire distinction. If the MTB had shocks that would make it even slower. The extra MTB weight might have a small effect however the greater effective aero highway motorbike place might have a considerable effect.
