I'm a big boy, 6'6" tall 300 lbs. I would like some advice on my first bike. I plan on road and light trails to see what I like and I don't want to spend alot on my first time out. I'll probably get it off Ebay unless someone has other suggestions. Any advice you could give would be great.

(spare the lecture on locking). I have a schwinn varsity 2006 (walmart). Retail is $199. I could buy new wheel set and cassette from the local bike shop for about the same; $200 (albeit, likely higher quality) OR I could buy a new bike. If I decide to buy the wheels/cassette, what should I look for in the cassette (ie will any cassette work for my bike)?

We recently bought a fifth wheel camper and want to take our bikes along. Someone told us that the bike racks that slide into a 2" hitch are not designed for the bouncing that occurs on the back of a camper. Is this true? We'd hate to get to a campsite and be missing 4bikes.

I have moved several times and have lost the owners manual. I have tried the bolt that goes down the stem, but it does not budge.

Hi I have a Gt Bike that is 17 years old. It has a few paint chips but the frame is in good shape. I just want to give it a little clean up because sand is stuck between the wheel axle, and frame. Do you think that a power washer would make it look brand new and shiny.Would the power washer chip off all the paint? What is the best way to clean the gears, and metal parts? Should i put them in a bucket of mineral spirit to get rid of all the sand? Thanks

A friend of mine told me that you can negotiate with a bicycle salesman. I was told, on average, that bike shops can discount up to 15%. The usual mark up on a bike is 30% - 40%. What is a reasonable offer on a $550 bicycle?

I also don't have a lot of money right now, is it better to go with a mountain bike or a cruiser. I'll ride it on pavement and some gravel crushed rock areas. I used to have a mountain bike and it was hard to ride, I want something that's going to work my muscles but not kill me. Thank's for any advice!

I ride in chilly weather (not below freezing, but getting there) and I find it hard to keep my extremities warm.

Also, I alternately boil and chill due to sweat. What can I wear that will keep me relatively comfortable when the temperature drops?

My boyfriend recently took up cycling and he's trying to figure out how to comfortably ride with the "twins". Do padded shorts really help with that situation or is that only for padded longer rides? I got him a ergonomic seat for men but he said that it only helped slightly from a regular seat? Any men cyclists have any advice for him?

I have a 21-inch (Adult Size) Mountain Bike "Mongoose -DXR". (bought at Wal-Mart). However, mostly I ride on road, which gives me lots of resistance due to wide tire (26 X 1.95)

If I put a ‘Slick Tire’ (26 X 1), will it help in the following aspect?

1. Will it make my ride Faster, with 'Low Rolling Resistance'?
2. Does ‘Slick Tire’ (26 X 1) go "Flat" too often? (With rubber "wore out" too quick?)
3. Whether putting ‘Slick Tire’ in a Mountain Bike causes me 'discomfort' in riding (since mountain bike are made with different frame geometry, not for road but for ‘off the rode’ riding)?

Please advise me, since I have very limited knowledge on this.

I am going to be moving closer to work and will be within 11 miles if I take the back roads. If I were to bike to work, how long should I plan for this trip to take (the ground is mostly level)?

Is there a definitive advantage of a road bike to a mountain bike?

Where can I get a decent bike for less than $100?

How should I train for this prior to attempting it?

What are the "rules of the road" for a cyclist?

Is a helmet mandatory?

How should I change my eating habits so that I am not injuring my body?

Some days, riding my bike to work seems to take more effort than others. Even when I'm just coasting down hills, it seems like I go significantly faster on some days than on others. It's not the wind. Could a higher air pressure cause this noticable difference?

Its for a good cause, so I want to do it but I'm not an experienced bike rider, in fact I don't even own one! Can anyone give me advice as to what kind of bike I should get? Any training advice would appreciated too!
