I drive a 2002 Ford Focus ( I know it sucks) and I have NO racks up there now. I want to add a bike rack that can carry 2 mountain bikes. Is this a simple task? Is there anything I need to do or know before buying a rack? Is it easy to install? Thanks in advance your best answer will be appreciated.

Oh and which is better for holding two bikes? Top mount or trunk mount?

It is actually fairly simple if you are slightly mechanically inclined. Go to a bike store or ski shop that carries top mount racks. My favorite are Thule and Yakima. Each of these manufacturers have specific fits to fit your make and model car. Once you have the cross bars mounted, you can buy any combination of bike, raft, luggage, etc. racks that you would like. They are not cheap, but in my mind they are the best way carry your bike.

Thuke makes top mount bike racks that and very easy to install and remove. If you go to your local shop to get one they can even install it for you and show you how to remove it (for a fee). Always make sure you get the correct rackf or your car (that's a given) but otherwise Thule or Yakima is the way to go.

I am a huge fan of the roof rack because it doesn't inhibit access toy our trunk or hatch in any way and is much more stable than a trunk rack. I had a trunk rack on my last car and HATED it, my Malibu now has a rookrack and it is a Godsend!!!

Good luck
