there are two little round things on my bike near the brakes on the handles. One of the round things has numbers 1 to 3 on it, and you can click a dial to change it from 1 to 3. The second one changes from 2 to 6. I know one is the gear, but which one? and what's the other thing?? thanks!

Both dials are to shift gears. The one with 1 to 3 shifts the front derailleur and the other shifts the rear. The best way to understand how this works is to ride your bike and play with the shifters to get a feel of what they do.

They are both gears. The 1-3 controls the 3 cogs that attach to the peddles (Front). The 1-6 is your rear gears, on the wheel. Try experimenting. The lower the number, the easier the peddling. Note: Don't try 1 - 3, or 6 - 1 combinations as you could throw a chain.

they are both for changing the gears. the one marked 1-3 changes the gears on the front, and the other side should say 1-6 (maybe the 1 got rubbed of or something). this side changes the gears in the back. use both to create different gear combinations.
