I have recently bought a chain device for my bike. it is a kona scrap. i have the tools to get the cranks off and the tool to remove the cup of the bottom bracket....but i can't. i.m not sure which way to turn and which side i need to do first. could someone please help me??

No offense, but Jay P's answer is backward. On an English threaded bike like your Kona, both BB cups tighten toward the back of the bike and loosen toward the front. In other words, the drive side is reverse-threaded. This is the opposite of pedals. Also, even when you turn the correct way it can take a LOT of force to break the cups free if they were installed tightly or have been in for a while. Start with the non-drive side.

One side of the cups are reverse threaded. I believe that just like pedals, off is towards the rear of the bike.

Dogma is right down here . Good luck setting up your chain device . What is it by the way ? An E13?
