Oscar Wilde once planned with his brilliant mother, the poetess Speranza, to found the "Society for the Suppression of Virtue". They were only half-kidding.

Their target was what they perceived to be the false piety that so many of their day claimed as "virtue". They were targeting the hypocritical and the petty-minded.

This makes we question, however, what it is we use to define standards of "virtue". Is virtue subjective? Are there standards of definition beased on culture? On social class?
Is "virtue" a fluid quality, allowing for the necessities of the moment?

How do you define "virtue" and how is it expressed within the context of your life; i.e., religion, culture, etc.

In the Bible God promises His Word will endure. He basically promises to protect it. Where is this promise for tradition? If tradition is equal to the Bible then why didn't God promise tradition would endure?

Isaiah 40:8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

1Peter 1:25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

I know it sounds crazy, but a guy I know who is very religious told me it was true and he read it in an up-dated Bible he owns. It kind of makes sense when you think about it, because some of Jesus's messages are similar to Native American beliefs.

When you are in a catholic church and the "baskets" come around during mass twice for collection, isn't that tithing? Why does the Catholic church which follows the New Testament practice tithing when that is an Old Testament law? Does the Vatican have a say about it?

If you can't, how can you be sure of anything else?

I don't think it is possible to prove you exist. You could just be a bad dream I have been having for what I believe has been my whole life.

Hurting me won't work because I could just be dreaming that you hurt me also.

Well I'm a muslim girl and sometimes I just feel so suffocated. All the rules in Islam sometimes really make me think that even breathing might be sin. Will I get punished by allah for thinking that way? I'm 14 and whenever I satrt complaining abt how some of the other muslim girls in our area can't even show their hair she goes out of her way preaching about how my opinions are sinful.

I'm not a Catholic, but I do attend mass with my boyfriend regularly as I love the atmosphere of spirituality and the good vibes that the church holds.

However, since I'm not Catholic, I'm not exactly sure which things I can participate in and which things I can't during mass.

My boyfriend said that the only thing I can't do is take Eucharist (although it is awkward to sit in the pew feeling like i've been excommunicated or something).

I wanted to get a second opinion though - as a Christian who is not (yet) Catholic, what parts of the mass can I participate in and what parts can I not?

Also, if you have any links/resources that further explain Catholic theology/beliefs and how an adult Christian would "become" a Catholic, I would appreciate them as well.

How can you say God really loves you and we are all his children, when the same god is telling us he has also created satan to set traps for us. Remember this folks, the god almighty can stop satan and show us the right way, but wont. But when we fall into the traps promises you an eternity of burning, fire, anguish, painful, misery and not to metion all the other things he will do to you. NOW DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT THAT GOD REALLY LOVES YOU. last time i checked my mother would never set me up like that, and I know my Mother Loves me. What do you people think

Genesis 1:30 eat all green vegetation.
Leviticus 7:23,24,25, 26,27 You must not eat any blood or fat.
No matter how small the meat is it has blood and fat in it.
If we lived on vegetables and fruits and nuts and whole grains and maybe olive oil. Wouldn't we be healithier?
Without eating meat or fat?
I know I am not a vegetarian and I am thinking about how can I diet and actually lose weight and keep it off and I am trying to get siked up about it. HOping this will help. Tell me positive things to make me lose weight! Need help! Need to lose 20 pounds.

I'm thinking it should be large so that way when it passes under you nose you'll see how much more empty it looks and feel obligated to "fill it up."

Why must some of you answer questions in a hateful and demeaning manor. For example: A person asks for prayer and some of you answer God doesn't exist, why bother, etc. There is no need to even post things like that. If you don't believe in the Lord, leave the question alone. I have never been hateful, demeaning, or insulting to anyone on here, yet you feel you have the right to be that way towards me. We will never learn from one another with the attitudes in this section! And before you say it, yes there are some Christians on here that need a lesson in that too!
