I've seen that done before. Weird.... makes me wonder if they were drinking Before the service (I know my uncle does). Ever seen then spit afterwards? Ah, come to KY, I'll show you some wonderous sights... I'll take you to the hillz to show you where they handle snakes and drink poison (My mom's family has some very colorful people in there). That's where I saw them stomp on the devil and then spit on him. It didn't scare me, just made me wonder if the bottle actually had moonshine in it instead of arsenic. Kind of reminded me of a tribal ceremony ;-)

Did they also handle poisonous snakes at that service? ; ) Because for some reason your description reminds me of those snake handling churches in Apalachia. In any event, I don't know if it would scare off satan, but a lot of religions make noise to ward off evil spirits.

I think the person who did that was overwrought with emotion. The devil probably laughed.
I believe the devil is real, though.

Ya gotta stop hangin out at places like that.
A babysitter, Starbucks, a chess set, a partner, and a hot beverage. My idea of a great Sunday morning...
as long as it is not ski season.

No need to stomp about.
The devil is afraid at the very mention of the name of Jesus.
