And no a "well, it was worded differently" or "well not directly"

Have you ever been told to your face, in person, that you'll burn in Hell?

I've never heard or seen someone ever say that. So it's hard for me to believe...

Please be honest too, don't lie.

yousedummy, no but I live in a small town with only about 400 people max. There are about 7k people in my entire county(that may be a little high). Although we may not agree with someone's views, we just don't say anything.

Once I heard a doctor tell someone they were going to die of cancer.

Yes I have on three occasions, most recently outside a mall in Mobile Alabama two years ago. I was waiting for a taxi to take me back to my hotel, and this SUV covered in signs for a church pulls up in the parking lot. Three men got out carrying red plastic buckets and started going around all the people nearby saying they were collecting money for a radio show sponsored by the church. I think it must have been fairly well known as everyone semed to be giving them money. I did not and the whole thing escalated from there. Mall security got called and they asked ME to leave. I explained that I was trying to.
The funny thing is that I never identified myself as an atheist on any of these occasions

Ever you ever gone to a downtown in the Midwest? I was in Lincoln Nebraska, outside a movie theater showing some movie a religious person objected to (I don't even remember what flick). The guy was yelling at people in line, "Repent! You'll all burn in hell."

Not in person, I also got an email from a fellow R&S user (a real one, not a troll), that he'll be "looking forward" to having me burn in Hell.

If you don't think fire and brimstone Christians exist, you must have been born again yesterday.

I am not an athiest, I am a religious Jewish female.

I have been told TO MY FACE, and so were my small children who were with me, by a fundamentalist Lutheran religious woman who was trying to get me to convert to Christianity, that "You are going straight to hell without Jesus."

And then this PIG had the NERVE to bend down to my small children and tell them "Your mommy is going to go to hell, and she will TAKE YOU WITH HER. You don't want that to happen, do you? Jesus loves you!"

At that point it took everything I had not to knock this ignorant, dense, disgusting excuse for a human being of a woman into next week. It took SUPREME self control. She was elderly, probably in her 60s, and that is probably the main reason I didn't deck her.

I told her to get away from me, get away from my children, and don't EVER come near us again or I would file charges for assault and terrorism on behalf of me and my children.

So I can't answer for the atheists, but no doubt if you asked other Jews, you would find similar experiences. It's a common occurrence for us. Especially after rejecting a conversion attempt.

I'm not an atheist...I'm a Jew and if I had a dime for every time I was SERIOUSLY told I will burn in hell because I don't accept Jesus as my "savior", I'd be a rich woman. And how about people saying SERIOUSLY that all the Jews killed by the Nazis in WW2 are now burning in eternal torment because they didn't accept Jesus as their "savior" before they were brutalized and raped and murdered. Hard for you to believe? You haven't been paying attention.

Well, before I was an Athiest/Agnostic, I was told I would burn in hell if I ever stopped believing. I saw others tell others they would go in hell, but specifically as an Agnostic, to my face I haven't been told I would go to hell, but John D. sure likes to make that clear on the R&S board.

Well, I'm a Christian, and I think it's a terrible that some ppl have shown such disregard for other ppl by there incredible lack of tact and horrendous behaviour. I kinda doubt that they really understand what Jesus' message really is. Jesus Christ is a loving God, who literally died the most painful death in that time to save us from an eternal punishment. God is Holy, we cannot even begin to comprehend how Holy God is! Anything less than holiness cannot come near to God! We are so blessed that God is giving us breath right now and time to make the choice between heaven and hell. It is our choice! If we go to heaven, it's by choice, if we go to hell, it's by choice! Jesus makes it all very clear in the Bible. Believe in Jesus Christ and you will be saved. (from hell) It's all up to you to decide.

I've been told that I was going to hell a few times, yes. I had somebody walk up to me at a supermarket cash register once and, without any other words or introduction or anything, tell me, "Did you know that you're going to burn in hell?"

What is the point in being honest, anyway? Just become some old dead guy once said it was the best policy?

Atheists don't need anyone to tell it to their face, they know their Bible so well they can quote it: "Atheist, you'll burn in Hell"

yes
I've seen worse- gimme a sec- I'll type it up for you.

edit here you go (its not pretty- but i got it typed up pretty quick while answering phone calls).

I was dating a girl for about 4 years whose family was VERY religious. Her mother was the youngest of 5. The OLDEST sister is a Pentecostal. Her whole family (5 boys, 3 girls) follows a very strict set of guidelines. They followed very closely and believed very firmly.

The oldest Brother-Tom- was the comedian/partier of the bunch. He, like his parents, was a Catholic.

One night there was a horrible rain storm. Tommy was driving a drunk friend home at midnight and getting ready to go home himself. A semi swerved out of control and jackknifed into his car- both people in the car were killed.

AT the funeral- which was a mess, as Tommy wasn't very old when this happened (28), everyone was in shock. The parents were devastated, one of his brothers (Steve) moved to Florida- never to return. Tom's ex wife became distant and moved on with her life- trying to shut him out... but the most damaged by this remained Tom's mother. Obviously in a deep state of grief, she sought comfort from her oldest daughter. The daughter (the Pentecostal lady) had the NERVE to tell a grieving mother- "I'm gonna miss Tommy so bad, but he's burning in Hell right now for not accepting Christ." Not only did she say this TO the mother, she said it in front of Tommy's children.

People like the afore mentioned woman are scum to me. ANYONE with that mentality is scum to me. You can call me a bigot or an anti theist or anti Christian. ANYTHING to keep me from being associated with that culture. I hate that woman. That family was one of the biggest determining factors in leaving that relationship. Its a good thing I wasn't at that funeral- I would have slugged her for it.

I'm a Christian.

But I'm also an Anthropology major and I get a lot of "you're going to hell"s for that.

I think that stems from a common belief that if you don't accept every word in the bible as being literal and factual then you can't truly be a Christian.

But that's retarded.
