He may have. However, many misguided martyrs have done that.

The Monks that poured gasoline on themselves and then lit a match and burned to death without moving thought they died for humanity too, But like Jesus who was a real person, died for a cuase but in no way made my life any better.
They might have rallied the troops back then but my mistakes are still my mistakes and I will not use him as an excuse to feel ok about what I did wrong and I wont use him to make myself feel like everything is going to be ok if I say his name enough.

no, i won't. Jesus was REAL historical figure, a philosopher named Yehoshua. He was jewish, with dark, curly hair hair and dark skin (You see, Christian depict him as a white male with fair skin and light hair, so it will appeal to majoruty of Christians, who just happen to be white). Jesus taught in parables and aphorisms. A parable is a figurative image with a single message (sometimes mistaken for an analogy, in which each element has a metaphoric meaning). An aphorism is a short, memorable turn of phrase. In Jesus' case, aphorisms often involve some paradox or reversal. Authentic parables probably include the Good Samaritan and the Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard. Authentic aphorisms include "turn the other cheek," "go the second mile," and "love your enemies." Crucifixion was a Roman method of execution, commonly used for criminals during the time of Jesus. The assertions made in the Bible that Pilate held a trial for an alleged troublemaker and ended up crucifying Jesus because the local population insisted upon it is considered historically dubious.
According to the Gospels, none of the disciples were present when Jesus discourses with God in the Garden (except at a distance) or with Pilate in Jerusalem. This lack of eye witnesses to the Passion and the audience with Pilate leads historians to conclude that the details of these events are later additions. However, scholars are split on the historicity of the underlying events. Indeed, no physical evidence of Pilate was known to exist until the discovery of the Pilate Stone in 1961. HE WAS A MAN, NOT A GOD

Why do you call Jesus a prophet? He made no prophecies that got here real. consequently he's not a prophet. He instructed the thief next to him on the go "this present day you would be in paradise with me." yet Jesus did not bypass to Paradise that day, he descended to Hell first, for 3 days. He stated that of the Jewish Temple, not one stone could be left status upon yet another. you are able to bypass see with your person eyes that there are a number of, MANY stones left of the Jewish Temple, quite the commencing place stones, a number of that are considerable, and the Western Wall the place the Jews pray when you consider that they don't look to be allowed by utilising the Muslim Waqf to wish on the Temple Mount itself. He instructed his followers that he could return till now they observed the tip of their technology. returned, the two a lie or a faux prophecy. So returned, many prophecy by utilising Jesus that did not come real, and whether he makes basically one prophecy that would not come real, then he's not a prophet, yet is a faux prophet. And he actual became into not the real Messiah or he could have fulfilled the certainly Jewish prophecies in the time of his lifetime, by using fact the "2d coming" became right into a concept invented by utilising Christianity while he did not fulfill them the 1st time. you be attentive to, like not greater war, the third Temple being rebuilt, the ingathering of the Jews, not greater ailment, not greater poverty, and the earth being restored to the situation wherein it became into while it became into the backyard of Eden, and something of the 27 or so Jewish prophecies in the Torah that the Messiah is to fulfill. additionally, Jesus did not practice with reference to the real GOD while he became into right here. He taught his followers that the real GOD'S observe in the Torah became into to be broken and altered and now not observed. He broke lots of God's regulations such by using fact the Sabbath, ingesting Kosher nutrition, and he taught his followers to do likewise. He did not practice with reference to the real GOD however the thank you to interrupt the regulations of the real GOD.

Atheist is not really what I am, I simply refuse to believe in an angry vengful deity who would play a part in the killing of his son. But then he's asked other fathers in that book to kill their children to prove they love him. I'm sorry, but any intelligent being capable of creation I'm quite sure could find a way to "save" us without the death of innocents. I think this century puts way to much emphasis on books written when the norm was killing, conquoring, and blood to expiate "sins".
Seems god moved from something PETA would sue him for in the old testament (animal sacrafice) to a more psychotic nature in the new (human sacrafice). I hold human life a little more sacred than the Deity I suppose.

If a teacher named Jesus did walk the earth, I will accept the possibility that he could have given up his life for something he believed very strongly in. He would not have been the first or the last to do so.
However, I will not accept his personal sacrifice somehow redeems all humanity and buys our way into Heaven. And I just don't believe that people resurrect from the dead.

Dieing for humanity is just a foolish church belief. Jesus was executed by the Romans under Roman law . He went around claiming that he had powers greater than the Emperor . At that time and place , such a claim called for the death penalty, which is what he got .
Crucifixions were very common at that time . Thousands of criminals were crucified , many for far less crimes than those of Jesus .
If his powers were greater than Caesar's , he would have been able to save himself . Score - - - - Caesar one , Jesus - - - - zero .

Why would an atheist accept that Jesus died for humanity?
That's pretty much a Christian-only viewpoint.
Not only do atheists not believe that, neither do any of the non-Christian religions in the world.

I did once, I don't anymore.
At this point I think Jesus was convicted of certain crimes according to the Romans, and given the death penalty. It's not like he could have decided that wasn't the right time to die for humanity. He had no choice! They were going to crucify him no matter what.

You are an idiot.
Atheists don't believe in Jesus moron. He doesn't exist. PERIOD. We are not denying your god. We don't believe in your god. Get it?
You aren't this brain disfunctional and you know better after having been told a hundred times on here so you already know what we'd say.
Yeah, go ahead and report me but I'm sick of your comments on here that are designed specifically to troll a reaction from atheists.
Knock it off.
Edit: And that last arrogant comment of yours is the reason you are getting such nasty reactions. If you were here in front of my face, I'd smack you for the unbelievable condescending rudeness you just displayed.
