I know what will happen. The same thing that happened in the year 1001, 1667, 1976, on January 1st 2000, and countless other dates throughout history: people will say "Oh, so the end of the world didn't come this year after all". Of course, people will be stupid enough to come up with yet another year.

The Mayan calendar doesn't say it's the end of the world. People misinterpreting how it works say that. 12-21-2012 is the first day of Baktun 13. It's not the end of anything--it's the start of a new 400 year cycle. The Baktun count goes up to 19 (several thousand years away) and even then the calendar doesn't end, a new, bigger cycle begins.
People like drama and they like spreading fear. So saying the calendar is ending, the world is ending, that's fearsome and dramatic and fun. Agreeing with someone like me who has studied the subject for almost 20 years is no fun.

I assure you that the world will not end on December 21, 2012. In the book of Revelation, it tells us about a period of a thousand years of peace. Has this occurred already since the time of Jesus? Not yet. That will still come.
But there is something that is certain—and that is our physical death. It may come when least expected. We do not know the day and the hour. It will come like a thief in the night. So we just have to be prepared all the time. Search for the true God and when we find Him, follow His commandments and remain in Him until our last dying breath.
This is all that we have to do. It is faith in Him that we can take with us when we depart from this world. If we deny Him, He will deny us also before the Father in Heaven. If we know Him and love Him and followed His commandments, then He may reward us to live with Him eternally in His kingdom in Heaven.

I do believe that there are some hair raising coincidences with the Mayan calendar and what has actually happened... But I would NOT go around thinking it was your day planner.... there is no way of knowing....
Besides as a Christian person... I don't think it comes highly recommended to follow calendars and astrology... things of that nature... it falls under the whole Do not worship idol gods....

What people fail to realize is that world could end at ANY time. There have been many close calls with asteroids that narrowly missed Earth. NASA fails to tell you this until a casual press release after the fact, since it would induce mass panic and hysteria.
If the Earth was going to be destroyed, we would never know.
Unless it was because Iran or China decided to start sending random nukes out to all continents...then we might get a heads up...or a heads off...
The point is that aside from any religious aspect, there are documented possibilities that could virtually destroy our planet in a heartbeat. Most people will go back to reading OK Magazine and their simple lives after they read this. Ignorance is bliss, right?
Excuse me while I go surf the net for info about the new Saw 4 movie....
Sioux: I disagree that this questioner's world ends when he dies. If you believe in God, it does not. He is either going to heaven, or to hell as per God's will. If you are Christian, you should know this.

The question is related with religions & spirituality and accordingly uniformality is the rigorious law of nature as what once happened can happen always. From my observations around more than 54 years, the people have become more dishonest than before. In such conversions the sins on universe are too much. Thus to remove sins either natural disaster or world war? Moreover,no body can predict about such happens as Lord Krishna said"I canot change happening as you would carry on work you will get that type of results. I thank to the questioner to think about welfare of the universe.

Post 2012 More arguments when the world will end. Some are opposing the concept of mayan calendar and their prophecies they believe we miscalculated the exact year but who knows just like we use 07 as the suffix instead of 2007 it must be suffix in their culture and we have got it misinterpreted because we do not have complete knowledge of their civilization and science, there are more things to be unearthed and of course every one will enjoy olympics of 2012

RE:: On December 22nd, 2012, a lot of people here are going to look like right idiots.
Seems odd that you would know the future... but, if you're still here and I'm not,,, then I guess you'll know that the Mayan Indians were correct..

It's not just the Mayan culture. On 2012, our solar system completes a 6,125 year alignment process. Our solar system will be aligned on that day, we just figured this out in the last 50 years, how the Maya, and several other ancient cultures figured this out around around 1,500 years ago we still have no clue.
The Maya for one did not predict the end of the world, so you, and anyone else who thinks that is the case already shows ignorance. They did possibly predict catastrophe, depending on the actions of the human race to the events that will occur.
Whether you believe in any prophecies related to the date, electro magnetic energy will soar through the roof when our solar system aligns, possibly causing large scale power outages. This has happened before, the last being in 1988, with electro flares that wont even compare with what will be sen in 2012.
