Quick poll for everyone:

Can you please state your religious affiliation then your Political affiliation (Republican, Democrat, Independent, other)?

I'm just curious to see how religious beliefs might tie into political beliefs.

This is in no way a scientific survey. This is just to sate the curiosity of a 161 year old man.

When you have had a difficult day where do you go or what do you do to find comfort? Sometimes I like a good bowl of pasta, sometiems just snuggling up on my couch with my favorite blanket, lying in my husbands arms and last night listening to my kids outside giggling. . . .So what does it for you?

I am an agnostic atheist. I am not for or against religion, but i do find it to be very interesting. My problem is that alot of atheist organizations are starting to use the same tactics as fundamentalist churches. Its the same arguing with pointing fingers and everyone knows it's not going to end. Alot of the card carrying atheists like to call people who believe in gods, or intelligent design idiots. Well okay so they have been conditioned to believe in something based on no proof. Science has obvious proof based on observations but my point is doesn't it bother you that there are atheists out there being hostile and using the same tactics as fundamentalists?

Shouldn't we just turn the other cheek and say, okay we understand what you're saying but we dont agree sorry. Maybe ignore them like you would a dog begging for food scraps. I know we want out basic rights protected but does it have to be so arrogant and foolish like the fundamentalists?

I cried so hard, and my heart broke. I feel that all this religion stuff is a joke. I feel that I was told something so long ago, that was based on absolutely no proof. I feel so alone now.
How did you feel when you realized God wasnt really there?
Atheist and non-seculars, what do I do now?

You either serve God or the devil, one or the other. There is no inbetween, no gray area?

What about an atheist Police Officer? Or an Hindu aid worker helping all faithes in an African war torn country? For example. Are they serving the devil because they would personally believe that they are not serving god?

I ask as it was part of an answer to one of my previous questions. MY personal beliefs should have no importance to this question. And I am not trying to offend Christians but I understand that I may have done. If so sorry.

Who forgives the christians?

The only way I could forgive a christian, is if they did this:

This is what Spiritually intelligent people do:

Create a Private, Personal, Direct, Divine Relationship with Our Creator.

remember:
Universal Truth is the only source;
UnConditional Love and Peace is the only answer.

Joseph Smith admitted to being a Mason in his History of the Church, volume 4, page 551. Under the date of March 15, 1842 it reads:

"In the evening I received the first degree in Free Masonry in the Nauvoo Lodge, assembled in my general business office." The record for the next day reads, "I was with the Masonic Lodge and rose to the sublime degree" (page 552).

The Temple rituals that only about 10% of "worthy" Mormons get to partake in are almost exactly like those of Freemasonry. Throat slashings and oaths of death have been removed according to most Mormons a few years ago. Do Mormons have a problem with their founding prophet being a Freemason? Are they going to actually deny that he was one?

How could the first living cell begin? That’s a greater miracle than for bacteria to evolve into man. How could that first cell reproduce? Just before life appeared, did the atmosphere have oxygen or did it not have oxygen? Whichever choice you make creates a terrible problem for evolution. Both must come into existence at about the same time.

"If, despite virtually impossible odds, proteins arose by chance processes, there is not the remotest reason to believe they could ever form a membrane-encased, self-reproducing, self-repairing, metabolizing, living cell. There is no evidence that any stable states exist between the assumed formation of proteins and the formation of the first living cells. No scientist has ever demonstrated that this fantastic jump in complexity could have happened—even if the entire universe had been filled with proteins."

My aunt thinks Harry Potter is the path to Satan, and she thinks he's the devil trying to trick you and it will lead to it's fans burning in hell---and she's not kidding. Personally, I love Harry Potter, and I don't think she should be getting so worked up about a piece of fiction. What do you think?

Ok, so if there was a young rich man who lived with his parents and was home schooled, who was never to leave the house (and even if he did there was no place over miles away) and the reason why his parents moved so far away was so that his son wouldn´t hear the word of God, or even just hear the name of God or anything spiritual or religious. Now one of the guards (to make sure the boy doesnt run away) was angry with the family and shot them as well as the young man.
So what happens to the young man? It wasnt his fault he couldnt hear the word of God. Right? Would he go to heaven or go to hell?

Once you're not worried about what God wants, you can wonder about what a real moral compass would be.

I suggest that "what's good for me is moral" is a good basis.

Obviously, it has appeal because people like to do what is good for them. Selfishness has it's perks.

However this is not as "bad" as many would like to pretend it is. Following this doctrine, I wouldn't steal, because stealing leads to jail. Ditto murder, etc. I wouldn't use crack because I am smart enough to know being a crack addict is not a long term plan to self-fulfillment.

Loving others can result in love returned, which is good for me. Even better, there is no reason to waste my time loving ungrateful people who will not return it.

Comments?

Please, Christians and others, I respect your questions that say "For Christians" or "For Muslims" etc, so do not troll here unless you have something genuinely constructive to say.

Timothy 3:2-5

Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. 4He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with proper respect. 5If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God's church?

I pulled a review of "Teen Witch" by Silver RavenWolf. An excerpt is below.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
In the very beginning of the book, she states that she is "-one of the most famous Witches in the United States today" as a way of introducing herself to the parents of a teen who is investigating Wicca. This statement may be fact, but it is not the way to make the readers comfortable with the material.

The thumbnail description of Wicca is necessary, and it gives the reader a chance to define what they believe. By the third chapter, despite saying that Wicca is a religion over and over, she goes into Magick and Spells, continuing this topic for the next 8 chapters. Spells on this, spells on that, how to protect your locker with a spell, how to shop with a spell, how to gain money with a spell, never again focusing on the religion.

I am wondering if God is trying to contact me and convert me....
First - There was the face of Jesus burned into the tortilla of my breakfast taco, it didn't taste that great just burned.
Second- This vagrant came up to my car and said, "Annie, I am trying to help you- I died for your sins please let me save you" and I had to turn on my wipers and spray washer fluid on him to get him away from my car.
and then just today a talking dog came up to me and said," it is not to late" so I backed over him with my car (it was kind of too late).
So, are these signs or just random coincindences. On a sidenote, any one know how to shut up a talking dog? The car didn't work. I mean much passed convincing me to be a Christian all he knows is showtunes.

What are some of the beliefs that Jehovah's Witnesses are said to be wrong. Why do some people not like them. I'm very spiritual and am in a group that I share my beliefs with and almost all of them dislike and disagree with Jehovah's Witnesses. Could you clear this up for me. Thank you.
