Jehovah’s Witnesses
Definition: The worldwide Christian society of people who actively bear witness regarding Jehovah God and his purposes affecting mankind. They base their beliefs solely on the Bible.
What beliefs of Jehovah’s Witnesses set them apart as different from other religions?
(1) Bible: Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God, and instead of adhering to a creed based on human tradition, they hold to the Bible as the standard for all their beliefs.
(2) God: They worship Jehovah as the only true God and freely speak to others about him and his loving purposes toward mankind. Anyone who publicly witnesses about Jehovah is usually identified as belonging to the one group—“Jehovah’s Witnesses.”
(3) Jesus Christ: They believe, not that Jesus Christ is part of a Trinity, but that, as the Bible says, he is the Son of God, the first of God’s creations; that he had a prehuman existence and that his life was transferred from heaven to the womb of a virgin, Mary; that his perfect human life laid down in sacrifice makes possible salvation to eternal life for those who exercise faith; that Christ is actively ruling as King, with God-given authority over all the earth since 1914.
(4) God’s Kingdom: They believe that God’s Kingdom is the only hope for mankind; that it is a real government; that it will soon destroy the present wicked system of things, including all human governments, and that it will produce a new system in which righteousness will prevail.
(5) Heavenly life: They believe that 144,000 spirit-anointed Christians will share with Christ in his heavenly Kingdom, ruling as kings with him. They do not believe that heaven is the reward for everyone who is “good.”
(6) The earth: They believe that God’s original purpose for the earth will be fulfilled; that the earth will be completely populated by worshipers of Jehovah and that these will be able to enjoy eternal life in human perfection; that even the dead will be raised to an opportunity to share in these blessings.
(7) Death: They believe that the dead are conscious of absolutely nothing; that they are experiencing neither pain nor pleasure in some spirit realm; that they do not exist except in God’s memory, so hope for their future life lies in a resurrection from the dead.
(8) Last days: They believe that we are living now, since 1914, in the last days of this wicked system of things; that some who saw the events of 1914 will also see the complete destruction of the present wicked world; that lovers of righteousness will survive into a cleansed earth.
(9) Separate from the world: They earnestly endeavor to be no part of the world, as Jesus said would be true of his followers. They show genuine Christian love for their neighbors, but they do not share in the politics or the wars of any nation. They provide for the material needs of their families but shun the world’s avid pursuit of material things and personal fame and its excessive indulgence in pleasure.
(10) Apply Bible counsel: They believe that it is important to apply the counsel of God’s Word in everyday life now—at home, in school, in business, in their congregation. Regardless of a person’s past way of life, he may become one of Jehovah’s Witnesses if he abandons practices condemned by God’s Word and applies its godly counsel. But if anyone thereafter makes a practice of adultery, fornication, homosexuality, drug abuse, drunkenness, lying, or stealing, he will be disfellowshipped from the organization.

The fact of the matter is that our modern society has discarded principles that God himself laid out in the bible for us to live by. It is often called "Cafeteria Style" Christianity. People walk by the buffet and pick and choose only the parts of the bible that they want to put on their plate. Jehovah's Witnesses don't do this. We believe it's all or nothing. Jesus said you're either with him or against him- there is no "Well, we were MOSTLY with you!" This is also why Jesus said that many will come to him saying "Lord, Lord, did we not (do this and that) in your name?" and Jesus will tell them, "I never knew you! Get away from me you workers of lawlessness!" There are people who actually believe that they are doing it right but will be shocked when Jesus says this to them. The sad thing is that they're probably not bad people, either. They just didn't take the time to learn the REAL truth of the bible or didn't care enough about God to put aside their own preferences in order to put God's principles first in their lives.
One thing you need to consider is this- How do you know if the answers you're getting are honest ones? If someone claims to have formerly been a JW and "knows all about them", how do you know it's not just a Baptist JW hater who's using propaganda? You need to talk to a real- life JW face to face! Yahoo is no place to find the unadulterated truth, if that is what you truly seek!

Jehovah God wanted us to use his name. Matthew 6:9, Jesus told us that we should pray: "Our Father in the heavens, let your NAME be SANCTIFIED." Also Isaiah 43:10 also brings out that Jehovah said, "You are my WITNESSES." God is a Title. Even with Arabs. A good dictionary will show you, “Allah” is a shortened form of the Arabic term meaning “the god", this is not a name. The title “God” is neither personal nor distinctive. In the Hebrew Scriptures the same word (ʼElo‧him′) is applied to Jehovah, the true God, and also to false gods. The Imperial Bible-Dictionary says: “It is everywhere a proper name, denoting the personal God and him only; whereas Elohim partakes more of the character of a common noun, denoting usually, indeed, but not necessarily nor uniformly, the Supreme. . . . The Hebrew may say the Elohim, the true God, in opposition to all false gods; but he never says the Jehovah, for Jehovah is the name of the true God only. He says again and again my God . . . ; but never my Jehovah, for when he says my God, he means Jehovah. He speaks of the God of Israel, but never of the Jehovah of Israel, for there is no other Jehovah. He speaks of the living God, but never of the living Jehovah, for he cannot conceive of Jehovah as other than living.” Hope This Helps

One important and incorrect teaching is that they do not believe Jesus is the mediator for all men
1 Timothy 2:5 "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;"
This scripture is very clear in letting us know that Jesus is our mediator. This is what true christians believe.
Unfortunately, 99% of JWs are taught that as part of the 'other sheep' Jesus is not their mediator. Not many JWs actually know this and I mention it when they knock on my door.as I think it is so important to give them a proper witness about Jesus.
Here are two quotes from their own publications
Likewise, the Greater Moses, Jesus Christ, is not the Mediator between Jehovah God and all mankind. He is the Mediator between his heavenly Father, Jehovah God, and the nation of spiritual Israel, which is limited to only 144,000 members." Worldwide Security Under the "Prince of Peace" pp.10-11
"Is Jesus the "mediator" only for anointed Christians? ... So in this strict Biblical sense Jesus is the "mediator" only for anointed Christians." Watchtower 1979 Apr 1 p.31
Jesus also established a new covenant with his people but guess what? That same 99% of JWs are not included or are a part of that covenant.
Why 99% of JWs call themselves 'christian' makes no sense.
As for JWs being hated you are correct in your statement that only a few hate them. JWs love to believe they are being persecutred for their beliefs. There are many JWs who are nice people, just as you will find in many religions.
Their beliefs and rules and hurt so many people over the years and due to this there are some people who dislike the Governing Body. It is because the Governing Body are responsible for creating these rules. These rules cannot be found in the bible. This includes their no blood transfusion policy and their shunning policy for people who choose to leave the religion or are kicked out because the elders have judged them as unrepentant sinners. This includes shunning from other family members.

You ever hear the saying 'people are afraid of whatever they don't understand' ? lol
no, but really there are so many rumors out there about JWs and what they believe and they are supposedly this or that. Most people don't even take the time figure out the truth, they just believe it and agree.
Whenever someone asks a question like yours I always show them Act 28:22 which says "But we think it proper to hear from you what your thoughts are, for truely as regards this sect, it is known to us that everywhere it is spoken against."
JW are definitely spoken of against everywhere, so it's nice to see someone actually take the time to find out the reasons.
The official website of Jehovah's Witnesses is www.watchtower.org It explains our beliefs quite well

Hey there!
I encourage you to seek out JWs for your questions face to face vs here on the internet..... People simply do not know what they are talking about and give you information that is NOT true about what JWs believe. We offer FREE home Bible Studies. We love answering questions and helping people learn what the Bible has to say. We love offering hope to people all over the world, including you of the hope soon to come, through God's Kingdom. You can go to www.watchtower.org and there is a lot of reading material there if you would like to read some there about Gods Promises and the Bible. When you go there you will be able to see you can take YOUR OWN personal copy of the Bible and read the scriptures and see that what we have to say is from the Bible.
Be careful on here with the information you get.The reason is because there are people here who post that used to be Jehovah's Witnesses before that have done some bad things in life or had a bad life and want to take it out on Jehovah God. That is in fact what they are doing because they at one time came to an accurate knowledge of God and decided that they didn't want to live a life according to what he wanted and have turned their back on God. They say horrible things, and most of them are so consumed with hate that they will lie. It is sad that they have turned out this way. (I tell you to be careful, but I am careful also. I am a long standing JW, and everytime I see someone that I think is like this above discribed person I just block them because they never have anything good to say and it helps me to skip over their post easier since I see this red mark by their name) But knowing this I encourage you to go straight to Jehovah's Witness to get your facts before you listen to these people. (again, as I mentioned before, as you can see with YOUR OWN Bible, all of our material is based on Bible principals)
Here is a link that will help you out on our beliefs.

Hello Lovin'
Thank You for asking.
I am not a baptised Witness,
although I do folllow all the teachings,
and have applied them into my life.
I read the answers 1st. And my goodness,
if the person is not a Witness,
they say some outlandish things.
It's always best to go to the source--Acts28:22.
The definition: The worldwide Christian society of ppl who actively bear witness regarding Jehovah God & His purposes affecting mankind. They base their beliefs solely on the Bible. That Jesus is His promised Messiah.
You have more than 1 Q here, so:
1) cut off from the world-- uummm we live here don't we.
We work, play, buy furniture for our homes,
our kids may play sports, or have dance classes, etc...
we are just usual ppl., w/ an exception,
we are separate from the world, as in we don't go for
"What's HOT," "what's the new faze," or craze.
And a bit more.
Jesus said: "My kingdom is no part of this world."
2) It is true we don't celebrate worldly or national holidays;
(a search can be done thru ur local library, let alone the Bible.)
We don't involve ourselves in these things because either they ARE of Pagan origins,
or they are just Made-up reality, w/ no 'real' worth.
We shun these things b-cuz it does NOT bring Glory to our creator.
In fact, most Directly Go Against our loving creator.
We do in fact, celebrate Baby Showers, Weddings
and the Anniversaries* there of, Graduations,
Every yr., we commerate the death & resurrection of Christ as he commanded on his final night.
Also, B-B-Q's are always yummy!
A person's Baptism; may go out for dinner, or have a dinner party, to celebrate.
It's wholesome gathers that we look to attend.--Ecc.2:24
Then, another mentioned bribery that's just 'wrong!'
No, we Do Not do This!
Confession--Wrong Again! itsn't That Catholic?
Not the Witnesses.
* marriage was instituted by God, and so is honorable.
3) Jesus said you received freely, give freely.
Every Witness gives his time "freely."
All our Bibles, study aids, literature IS FREE.
Go to your local Kingdom Hall & see for yourself.
We don't pass a collection plate @ services,
we don't give a tithe. We do have donation boxes
@ each Hall, u give what you want, when u can.
No obligation. No compulsion or cohersion involved.
Voluntary contributions--2 Cor.8:12;9:7
4) We did not believe in the Trinity teaching.
It is Not a Biblical teaching.
Jesus was/is NOT the Almighty.
God is Jehovah.
Jesus is the Son of God.
The Holy Spirit is God's active force or His will, if u prefer.
(Jewish ppl, Mormons, Unitarians & Muslims*; also adhere to this.) *Muslims worship 1 God, not a triune godhead.
5) The issue of blood.
We Do Accept Other Safer Methods of treatment.
Also, everyone has their own paticular health issues,
and being thus so; {we are all allowed freedom of choice in "some" regards of treatment#} that each indiviual is willing to accept. i.e. Chiropractic care.
Both my dghtr's have a Very rare blood type,
Only 5% of the world's pop., has this blood type.
If 1 were to be given blood it WOULD kill her.
Not might, maybe, possibly or could; No, "Would" Kill Her.
I got that 411 off the net. When my 1st grd child was on the way, her Dr. informed us. I went & learned all I could.
The Dr. didn't use blood; his own decision; it was a
C-section;& she was wide awake holding her baby a few hours later. I had 3; and was given blood, & didn't get to see mine for just over 24 hours. I wasn't always a Witness, also I didn't know I was being given blood until the 3rd & final baby.
When I had to sign a release, releasing the hosp., & Dr., from liabilty--AIDS. Needless to say; I didn't like it. I still take AIDS tests every 6 mos. This is NOT a scare tactic! Yes, it's scary, It's TRUE. I Lived It and Am Living It. There are plenty enough ppl that will say; There's tests/ the blood supply doesn't have AIDS in it. Good, I don't want it, it's my choice**.
Our blood inside ourselves is Always Moving--we are Alive.
A dead person's blood is NOT Moving.
Therefore it is dead blood. I won't store my own blood;
there ARE other methods, SAFER methods.
{# Jehovah is the one who gave the command & the word to abstain from blood, of each own's own accord & reasoning the individual still does not accept whole blood or blood transfusions}
** Both my hsbnd's., mom & my mom got Cancer,
his mom took treatment that included rec'ving blood
she fell asleep in death 6 mos later
(July-diagnosed/Jan-gone). My mom chose Not to go that road, & she's still living, 7 yrs., later. True it was in different parts of their bodies. But, not a 1 of them is a Witness!!!!
(certaintly NOT my mom; HAHAHAHAH LOLOLOLOL, my mom a Witness!!! wait til I tell her about 'this-here'; Oh No, my mom is proud of being Pagan)
**The point is; it is everyone's own right to chose.
And even my hsbnd., in his grief was mad cuz my mom is still here & his isn't; and said so.
A) The Bible, we believe the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God.
B) We worship God as the only true God.
And freely speak to others about Him.
C) Jesus Christ, we believe he is the Son of God,
NOT part of a Trinity. He is the 1st born of all of God's creations; that he had a prehuman existence. That Christ is actively ruling as King, w/ God-given authority over all the earth since 1914.
D) God's Kingdom we believe is the only hope for mankind; that it is a real government; that it will soon destroy the present wicked system of things, including all human governments, and that it will produce a new system in which righteousness will prevail.
E) Heavenly life: We believe that 144,000 spirit-anointed Christians will share w/ Christ in his heavenly Kingdom, ruling as kings w/ him. We do not believe that heaven is the reward for everyone who is "good."
F) Death; We believe that the dead are conscious of absolutely nothing; that they are experiencing neither pain nor pleasure in some spirit realm; that they do not exist except in God's memory, so hope for their future life lies in a resurrection from the dead.
G)Separate from the world: We earnestly endeavor to be no part of the world, as Jesus said would be of his true followers. We show geniune Christian love for our neighbors, but we do not share in the politics or the wars of any nation. We provide for our families material needs, but shun the world's avid pursuit of material things & personal fame & in its excessive indulgence in pleasure.
H) Apply Bible counsel: We believe it is important to apply the counsel of God's word in everyday life now--@ home, school, in business, in our congregation.
Regardless of a person's past way of life, he may become 1 of Jehovah's Witnesses if he abandons practices condemned by God's Word & applies its Godly counsel. But if any1 makes a practice of adultery, drug abuse, fornication, homosexuality, drunkenness, lying, stealing, he will be disfellowshipped from the org.
These are just some of the beliefs of Jehovah's Witnesses.
The #'ered answers @ the top, are my own words.
The lettered answers are from 1 of our study aids.
Funny, how some say almost the same thing.
Probably, because my thoughts, feelings & beliefs are taught to me from one (1) God.
my answer why ppl don't like us:
because by our way of life;
their actions are condemed.
the Biblical answer:
Jesus said it best; because
my kingdom is no part of this world;and
they hated me, they will hate you.
U can use your own Bible to see if any
of these answers have the ring of truth to them.

I'm an Ex-JW believer turned JW critic (I am a Christian as well these days).
And I can tell you that a lot of their believes are bizarre and some pure hypocrisy.
For instance the Witnesses did celebrate Holidays till Judge Rutherford cancelled the idea based on the issue of Pagan origins.
But the Witnesses use Wedding rings (also originally Pagan).
The ruling body is called The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, but a-ha the word Watchtower is associated with Paganism, the Castle on some of the Literature is also associated with Paganism too.
In Malawi the Witnesses were told to refuse to buy party membership cards that were required of all citizens, loads got raped and killed for disobeying, but in Mexico a law for compulsory military service for Males wound up in place and The Watchtower told Witnesses there, that they could bribe Military officials into claiming the Male Witness had completed a year of basic training, that is if their consience permitted this.
Witnesses refuse blood transfusions based on a misintepretation in Leviticus that says don't eat Animal blood, but the biggest experts on that topic are the Orthodox Jews and they actually support Blood transfusions.
The Witnesses actually do have a confusion though on if using your own blood is ok, as some feels that once your blood is our of your body then it's tainted, but some feel it is ok since it's your own blood.
So the Watchtower policy on using your own blood is that, if your conciense says it's ok then it's ok but if your conciense says it's wrong then it's wrong.

as you see, many on here don't know anything about Jehovah Witnesses and would rather lie about us then learn about us. we don't go to anyone's door early in the morning. we are not a cult. a cult worships man. we worship Jehovah God and do what Jesus Christ commanded us to do at Matthew 28 verse 19 and 20. yes, we don't celebrate holidays, they are man made. we do give gifts to one another. we don't need a reason to give a gift to each other. if you want to learn what we are really like please visit a kingdom hall or the website at www.watchtower.org. many on here turned there back on Jehovah God and will slander us. I know of many on here. please don't listen to them.
