My aunt thinks Harry Potter is the path to Satan, and she thinks he's the devil trying to trick you and it will lead to it's fans burning in hell---and she's not kidding. Personally, I love Harry Potter, and I don't think she should be getting so worked up about a piece of fiction. What do you think?

Lol....your aunt sounds like my cousin's wife. And the funny thing is, she's a school teacher! Why on Earth anyone would condemn a book that has gotten millions of children interested in reading is beyond me. I think people take things too seriously in this world. Harry Potter has nothing to do with Satan, or Jesus, or any other religion or belief. It's a brillinatly-written children's book that's just a lot of fun.

People get too up tight about this stuff.

It's people like that which forced the International Statute of Secrecy in the 17th century to come into force in Harry's world. Basically it's fear and ignorance. To say Harry Potter is evil, and would have been put to death had he actually existed, and lived several centuries ago is nonsensical. He's just a young boy/man who happens to be able to perform spells. There are Dark wizards, namely Voldemort et al, but JK Rowling clearly portrays them as evil. Anyone who thinks it's evil clearly hasn't ever read the series. Indeeed manu Christian celebrations seem to be a part of the wizarding world- Christmas and Easter are celebrated, and children appear to have some sort of religious Baptism given they have godparents (such as Sirius Black being Harry's godfather). It's complete ignorance and it's a shame that some people still believe in the same rubbish that others used a few hundred years ago to actually burn human beings to death for suspected witchcraft.

I'm probably old enough to be your aunt... but I've seen those movies. So please hear me out.

I'll try to help you understand your aunt's viewpoint.

The Bible tells us to turn from foretune telling and witches, and the like. I do realize those movies are pure fiction. But do you realize how much Hollywood glamorizes evil?

You see, not ALL young minds are prepared to do battle with the one who can TWIST the truth. Just like it was in the more recent Harry Potter movies, there is power in love. But the Love of God wins out in Truth. There's a battle everyday for souls. Love does win out in the fantasy world. But Truth wins out in God's world.

Did you happen to know that many kids who have been to church and heard of God, believe they can actually practice witchcraft, and it's okay? That's where the battle for the mind comes in.

There's nothing wrong with enjoying a movie.
But do you realize that God is against practicing witchcraft in real life? Can you personally discern truth from lies?

Hollywood's drama makes it all look like child's play!
That's actually satan's sneaky way of turning some vulnerable children away from God.

Now, if you were standing before Jesus, and He asked you who had more power, Jesus or Harry Potter, what would you say? You might be surprised how many other young kids might say Harry.

May the Lord bless you with knowledge of His Word in the Holy Bible. May your aunt not come on so strongly, and force it down your throat. But rather lead you in the direction of our Father in Heaven. Amen.

GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS....

I see your aunt's view. Witchcraft itself is frowned upon by Christians. But Harry Potter is a fictional character. As long as you remember that and focus your life, heart and soul on the TRUTH, Jesus Christ, you'll be fine.

Yes, I enjoy the Harry Potter books and the movies. But I do not feel the need to cast spells and do the things Harry and his friends do. Harry Potter is not my hero or role model. And I do not believe in witchcraft.

God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ) and God the Holy Spirit are my heart, soul and destiny. The Holy Trinity is real. Harry Potter isn't.

I've seen that before. There are actually websites dedicated to it.
Like one I read (about Chamber of Secrets) where they said that because Harry could talk to snakes and snakes tempted Eve, it proved Harry was sent by the Devil. And at the end when Jennie cries after the snake dies and Tom Riddle is taken away, she actually crying b/c her one chance at salvation away from Harry is gone.

Crazy Stuff!

Christianity preaches against what they see as the Occult...and the Potter books dive right into the midst of what is commonly seen as the Occult.

We always need our Ozzy Ozbournes, or Harry Potters, to blame things on, though.

Although the Potter books do actually get into some divinations of actual Occult practices...its really just all fluff.

Harry Potter is the NEW God your children worship. Even some adults worship Harry Potter.

I feel very sorry for those who would be spoon fed their own identity willingly. My maternal grand parents were very strict christians with the same view points as the long winded preachers before me. The sad thing is that many of the christian denominations can not even accept each other's way of praise. I should know because I was a presbitarian in a catholic school. I was forced to bounce from church to church with my parents for 14 years. If "christians"can not even accept others who follow the same God, same prophets, same book, in their heart of hearts, how could you ever expect them to accept anyone non-christian. Often referred to as those evil pagans.
They will however hide behind their "Dominator's book of moral stories" (bible), and rail at you about what they want you to do. Quote what a bunch of guy's in the desert had to put up with thousands of years ago. A book often revised to suit the current pope's or king's whims. Even Shakespeare has his fingers all over the bible. Don't most of his plays show pagans and faeries and witches as main characters? OF COURSE THEY DO!!! Nobody today says that Shakspeare is the path to the devil do they.

"Did that William Shakespeare rewrite part of the bible? Well he must be fine because God would never let a dirty heathen write his book under any circumstances. God must have spoken to Old Bill and told him what to write so he must be good then" quoth the old woman who believes that cigarettes aren't bad for her.

My question to you is would you let someone who is perfectly capable of being wrong to bully you, for your entire life?

Better yet, since the idea of the guardian angel (spirit guide to most of us, conscience to the rest of us) is a sound christian ideal, have her try this.
Sit in a room devoid of distractions. Clear her mind of fears and worries. Ask God to let her talk to her guardian angel. If she can open her mind enough to do this, ask her guardian angel if harry potter is of the devil. She has to be wary of answering the question herself in her own head. It is often the case with zealous, narrow minded people to put the cart in front of the horse. If she has a strong angel she may get an answer that frightens her.

Preposterous, basically.

C S Lewis loved Norse mythology. That doesn't mean he considered it to be true. His understanding of the value of myths and tales is worth looking out.
See especially "The Funeral of a Great Myth" in Christian Reflections, where what he is attempting to bury is a popular belief in evolutionary progress.

Mind you, I've seen websites that declared him, too, not to have been a proper Christian.,

The whole Harry Potter is evil thing is bizarre. Does she thing the Wizard of Oz is evil? Does she not tell small children about the tooth fairy?
