What pushed you out of your original religion/belief ?

The last time i was in a church (many moons ago) the minister ranted for the full service about how the amount he got in the collection didn't even cover his wages. Considerate of him seeing as the majority of the congregation were 'elderly' people.
This straw didn't break the camels back it broke 'mine'.

The Romans set out laws and they should have gone on more witchunts to get more criminals like Jesus to be crucified. He shouldn't have started a religious movement. He should have kept his mouth closed and did his own thing. Too bad they didn't feed him to the dogs in the Collosium to show what happens to crooks. I think they should have people throw garabge at Jesus while he was beeing brought into the collosium and then be fed to lions and emabarss Jesus. They showed him mercy and killed him on the cross instead. I admire the Romans for their bravery and their not putting up with deranged hippies who claim they can speak to God.

I would like to help people in need who walk up to me and ask for help, but how do I know that they are not panhandling for drugs or alcohol? Would you just give them cash, or what would you do? How would you help them, but insure that they are not abusing the help? I had this happen last night, and I am not sure, but I think they were just panhandling (female asking for money for food for her and her daughter - gave her $10.00 cash). How could I have handled this better? I want to be a compassionate person, did I do the right thing?

Don't they realise that we DO understand the passages we read?

So often it's in response to questions about evolution. Are they prepared to study the information we put forward?

When I suggested that someone read Carl Sagan's "Cosmos" a few weeks ago, I actually got a violation for it. How would they feel if they coped violations for telling us to read the bible?

Cults brain wash people to mindlessly believe things with out question. Control them by dictating what you should and shouldn't do, dress, eat, act etc. Many Christians on this site appear to be regurgitating the Bible with out much insight or reflection on this ancient text with its many challenging and incredible messages.

For those of you from around the world that may not know, Jackie Robinson was the first Black American to play in the Major Leagues of our professional baseball. He broke the color barrier in 1947 when he started playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Today the Major Leagues are honoring him. I think that is very cool.

In addition, the judges and proescutors destroyed or heavily edited the record of the Defenses testimonies and all the written evidence they could find.

So what history is it?

did he die to save himself also??
if he knew he was going to come back, where is the sacrifice. this would make the crucifiction a publicity stunt.

also i find it a breach of trust that god impregnated one of his children.
is this a form of rape or was mary consentual.
is it also concidered adultry?
is god a dead beat dad for spawning a child then being aloof and invisable.

What kind of stone was the 10 commandments written on? Was it sourced directly from the mountain, stone from heaven (like moon rocks) or created from nothing? How heavy where the stones? Why wasn't steel or even more advanced material used instead of stone, which would have been more durable, and much lighter?

Stone is just not durable over time. Go to old graveyard, you'll see old grave markings have been eroded by weather over time.

here is my question:
is the Holy Spirirt God/Jesus' spirit that He sent down on us?
so by receiving the spirit, Christ is with us all the time??

do we only receive the spirit after Confirmation?

In the bible it says that God loves us and if you dont worship and believe in him you will go to hell and burn in a lake of fire for eternity. Lets say you were God......and your mom, dad children, cousins, aunts uncles in whom you love did not worship you or believe you existed, would you send them to a lake of fire for eternity and let them suffer in pain ???? Does it make sense for a higher being to torture the ones he love just because they dont believe in him? Its like killing all the ants just because they do not worship me ................................. give me your opinions and comments and what you think.

Would you defend a faith or religion you dislike when someone says something about it that isn't true?
For example:
Mormons hate black people.
This is a false statement. Black people have been accepted into the priesthood for over 20 years. Joseph Smith gave the priesthood to 2 black men that I am aware of, prior to Brigham Young 'revelation.'

God, our loving Father, made Man and Woman flawed. He could have made us perfect but chose not to. Don’t bother asking why. Just having a bad day, maybe. God would not make a very good clinical psychologist. With forethought if not malice he laid temptation in our path. Just what the Lord’s Prayer, not yet written, asks him not to do. “Lead us not into temptation,” says the Lord’s Prayer. If Adam and Eve had had the Lord’s Prayer to work with things might have turned out differently. Anyway, being omniscient God knew in advance what kind of human dynamics he was setting in motion by introducing temptation. If he didn’t know he could have and should have. Big surprise: being flawed and curious and weak when it comes to temptation, we bit the bait. Bad news. That automatically made all God’s beloved children, present and future, smart as all hell, but sinners, candidates for eternal punishment in Hell. Hell is a place God created...he created everything, remember...to punish human beings who behave like human beings rather than twitty little angels. Hey, God, if you wanted twitty little angels why didn’t you make them instead of us? And don’t blame it all on the Devil. Nobody said you had to make a Devil to keep things screwed up.

Anyway, since all us weak humans became sinners overnight, because God threw temptation in our way, God decided he had better take a shot at correcting the situation. (A delegation from the garment industry came to God’s throne in Heaven and prayed for him to keep people ashamed of their nakedness since it would be good for business. God seems to have accommodated them.)

Did God correct the sin situation by the simple expedient of making a human recall, like a carmaker would do, fix or replace the faulty part and send us safely out into the world again? No.

Instead he decided to bring his one and only Son into the action and teach his Son something about godmanship (if that’s not a self-contradicting word).

“Here’s the plan,” God the Father said to God the Son. “I’m going to send you to Earth, specifically to Judea where my Chosen People the Jews are. While you are there you can do some teaching and healing and other miracles so that at least a few of the folks will get the idea of who you are without you walking around bragging about it. But your main chance will be to get yourself arrested, charged with disturbing the peace or something, and crucified. Crucifixion, in case you haven’t been paying attention to what’s going on down there, Son, is the way the Roman governors of Judea punish and dispose of their criminals. What they’ll do is nail you wrist and foot to a wooden cross and leave you there until you die. I can tell you, Son, it is going to hurt like hell. But that’s the point. You’ll be a blood offering. To me, God. Because of your token suffering on the cross for a few hours (I’ll see that it doesn’t last too long) you will in a figurative way be accepting the punishment for everybody’s sins, present and on into the eternal future. Your suffering on the cross will be in lieu of my sending folks to Hell as punishment for their sins. Get it?”
