im a christian and i believe in the Holy Trinity and everything,
but im a bit.....confused....about the Holy Spirit

i understand that its a mystery of our faith and that no one will ever truly understand it because we are not God (obviously!)

here is my question:
is the Holy Spirirt God/Jesus' spirit that He sent down on us?
so by receiving the spirit, Christ is with us all the time??

do we only receive the spirit after Confirmation?

your answers dont have to be very long....
im just after an explanation that is not too long
personal opinions welcome!

thanks

The moment you accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior by praying the prayer of repentance listed in Romans 10:8-10, then you receive the Holy Spirit.

Your body becomes the temple of the Holy Spirit.

In the book of Acts people received the Spirit at different times. But one thing was sure, that all believers had the Spirit.

It is also called our witness, or seal. Your soul and the Holy Spirit become inseparable. That is why you have Eternal Life from the moment you are saved.

Friend there is only ONE SPIRIT & not 2 or 3 , You have God & God is a spirit, You have God in the manifestation of the Creator, Then You have God coming to live in Jesus Christ at the age of 30 & NOT BEFORE THAT TIME, John Baptized Jesus & God came down To dwell in Jesus without Measure, as the redeemer, Then You have the self same spirit of God coming back to live in every true Believer as that of the Comforter or we can say the Holy Ghost, But all done by one spirit only in 3 different Manifestation of that same spirit. There is not 3 persons nor 3 spirits, God & the Holy Ghost has always been a spirit & never a person. Just as myself, I am a husband, & I am a son, & I am a Grand dad. But only one spirit but in 3 different manifestations of that same person or spirit.

You're going to get alot of different answers based on the answerer's beliefs. So here goes...By the way I am Pentecostal and do not believe in the "trinity". I've included scriptures for you if you'd care to research each point.

1. Is the word trinity in the Bible? No.
2. Does the Bible say that there are three persons in the Godhead? No.
3. Does the Bible speak of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost? Yes.
4. Do these titles as used in Matthew 28:19 mean that there are three separate and distinct persons in the Godhead? No, they refer to three offices, roles, or relationship to humanity.
5. Does the Bible use the word three in reference to God? Only one verse in the entire Bible does so-I John 5:7. It speaks of the Father, the Word (instead of Son), and the Holy Ghost, and it concludes by saying, "These three are one."
6. Does the Bible use the word one in reference to God? Yes, many times. For example, see Zechariah 14:9; Malachi 2:10; Matthew 23:9; Mark 12:29, 32; John 8:41; 10:30; Romans 3:30; I Corinthians 8:4; Galatians 3:20; I Timothy 2:5; James 2:19.
7. Can the mystery of the Godhead be understood? Yes. Romans 1:20; Colossians 2:9; I Timothy 3:16.
8. Has the Christian only one Heavenly Father? Yes. Matthew 23:9.
9. Then why did Jesus say to Philip, "He that hath seen me hath seen the Father" (John 14:9)? Because Jesus is the express image of God's person. Hebrews 1:3. The Greek word for personin this verse literally means "substance."
10. Does the Bible say that there are two persons in the Godhead? No.
11. Does the Bible say that all the Godhead is revealed in one person? Yes, in Jesus Christ. II Corinthians 4:4; Colossians 1:19; 2:9; Hebrews 1:3.
12. Is the mystery of the Deity hidden from some people? Yes. Luke 10:21-22.
13. Who is the Father? The Father is the one God, particularly as revealed in parental relationship to humanity. Deuteronomy 32:6; Malachi 2:10.
14. Where was God the Father while Jesus was on earth? The Father was in Christ. John 14:10; II Corinthians 5:19. He was also in heaven, for God is omnipresent.
15. Did the prophet Isaiah say that Jesus would be the Father? Yes. Isaiah 9:6; 63:16.
16. When God said, "Let us make man in our image" (Genesis 1:26), was He speaking to another person in the Godhead? No. Isaiah 44:24; Malachi 2:10.
17. How many of God's qualities were in Christ? All. Colossians 2:9.
18. How may we see the God who sent Jesus into the world? By seeing Jesus. John 12:44-45; 14:9.
19. Does the Bible say that Jesus is the Almighty? Yes. Revelation 1:8

The Holy Spirit is God. "God is a Spirit" (John 4:24). "There is . . . one Spirit" (Ephesians 4:4). To become a subject in the kingdom of God, Jesus said a person must be "born again," or "born of water and of the Spirit" (John 3:3-5). The birth of the Spirit and the baptism of the Spirit are synonymous terms. The Apostle Peter understood this truth as he spoke. to the multitude in Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost: "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost" (Acts 2:38). This experience was received by the Jews on Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4), the Samaritans (Acts 8:15-17), and the Gentiles (Acts 10:44-48), plainly indicating that it was meant for all people, regardless of race, creed, color, or station in life. The new birth, consisting of water and Spirit, was never set forth as being optional or unessential. "Ye must be born again" are the words of Jesus in John 3:7. Until a person is born of the Spirit, he cannot be called a "son" of God.

Yes, it's God's spirit with us to be with us, guide us and comfort us until the return of Jesus. Baptism / Confirmation etc is your public confession of Jesus as Lord - people are often blessed with an extra 'dose' of the Spirit then, but you receive it when you invite Christ in and that can be anywhere, any time.

Well, Jesus said if He does not go to the Father He can't send the Holy Spirit (comfiter),and I know it says in the bible that The Holy Spirit speaks only what He has heard from God,,Truth..So, I don't know if maybe He is Jesus since He is sitting at the right hand of our Father or maybe an angel God has made to help us in guiding us in truth..I don't know for sure but I know that He suely guides me alot,,thank you I will go into prayer about this and Our Father will show me ....Love and Peace...

There is no definite time. as long as you accept the need for you to receive the Holy Spirit and believe that you have it.. faith ,that is.

Each of us is already given the gift of Holy Spirit. It is there to guide us and in lame man's term, they are called.."conscience".It depends on us whether we'd stop for a while from our busy lives and try to listen to it. Also, we could hear it more, not literally though.. by reading God's word- the Bible.c:

You receive the Holy Spirit when you become a Christian. For some people that involves baptism or Confirmation. I believe that anything that comes between you and your Lord is a hindrance, and is from man. Jesus did all the work, there is nothing left to do. But I am not aggressive about my view.

Yes the Holy spirit is received at the moment of salvation, but we do not come to salvation unless the Holy Spirit is at work drawing us to God. It is the Holy Spirit that is working externally to illuminate our minds and convict us.
John 6:44 "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day.. It is written in the prophets: "They will all be taught by God." Everyone who listens to the Father and learns from him comes to me.

Ahhh you are Catholic. I used to be Catholic until I started having more questions about the trtaditions and practices. I studied more and found that and the Holy Spirit has not one thing to do with being "Confirmed as into confirmation" You do not have to be confirmed to recieve the holy spirits works.

all you have to do to receive the holy spirit is accept christ, and be baptised. but its more than just going through the motions...you know when you have the holy spirit in you. its a fire.

with the holy spirit in you, you can do all sorts of really rad things. its incredible. i dont think anyone can understand it until they have experienced it, which is why not many people understand christianity.

the holy spirit comes from GOD ALONE.

wow i love thinking about these things. it blows my mind...praise god.

take care hey
