What pushed you out of your original religion/belief ?
The last time i was in a church (many moons ago) the minister ranted for the full service about how the amount he got in the collection didn't even cover his wages. Considerate of him seeing as the majority of the congregation were 'elderly' people.
This straw didn't break the camels back it broke 'mine'.

I am sorry you had a bad experience with church.
My father was a preacher, passed away in January. I remember growing up when there was not enough money in the collection plate, my father just wouldn't get paid, I had even seen him put extra money in just to pay the light bill at church. My dad and mom had public jobs also.
So there really are honest Christians out there. He raised me right. But I don't and will not give to TV evangelists. All they do is ask for money, and live well.

Just go 2 a differnt church, if that one also has a minister telling people 2 give him money then u can quit 4ever. Besides I should think the focus of a church sevice is on the god and not on the minister. Don't like ur minister? Find another.

Walking home in about the forth grade after being told that Good people from other religions would not get to heaven but the hypocrites I went to church with would.
I just realized the either God had to be an idiot, or this was a lie.
I decided that God was probably not an idiot.
Love and blessings Don

the church I attended (many moons ago too) didn't preach about giving, they didn't even pass am offering plate around. There was a small box on the back wall - if you wanted to give you were free to do so - there was no pressure or fuss made about it. Religion isn't about the church you go to or your pastor - it's about your personal relationship with God.
EDIT:
Mia...your responses have been sarcastic and kind of rude today..are you okay?

Goodness, where to begin?
For starters, I read the Bible. That was a step in the right direction. Then I learned Greek, studied ancient Hellenistic philosophy, read the Church Fathers, studied the evolution of canon law, and stopped adding in supernatural explanations where they were not needed. Needless to say, it didn't take long for me to realize that the Evangelical paradigm was completely unbiblical and ahistorical.

I have never heard of this happening before. I guess you picked a good church , or a good story *wink wink* So ... this pushed you out of belief?Wow. I guess you didn't really have faith to begin with. The actions of one man destroyed your entire belief in God? I hope your other relationships fair a little better.

A responsibility of the church is to support the pastor. Apparently they were not doing that. If you can't support the pastor you should consider closing the church.

Don't put your faith in man, we are fallen! Put your faith in God, the one that gave you life!
I had a similar experience though, and I sympathize. The advice I gave here took me the better part of a year to put into practice.
Good luck in your walk!
Notice FISH below says "A" responsibility" not THE responsibility....

I am so sorry you attended a church that was like this. There are so many decent churches out there. You shouldn't let one bad apple spoil it for you. I hope you will decide to attend another one soon.
