Where does it say in ;the Bible that a man CAN NOT have more than one wife? The law against polygamy notwithstanding where is there a Biblical prohibition? I am not interested in you opinion about what God intended or what the Neighbors preacher said. Give me chapter and verse saying a man CAN NOT have as many wives as he wants.

I take an AP World History class and I've come to notice that it has taken a serious toll against my classmates’ religions. It is taught by one of the greatest instructors I've ever had, and the class is taught to a very prestigious group. The course consists of the many theories of how man begun and its development into the being it has become today up to the most recent times. It covers topics very distinctively in areas such as economics, culture, politics, epidemics, language, war… Everything you could ever know about a civilization.

However in learning about these civilizations, you are also taught their religions and understand how their beliefs affect their society and much more. It can practically be seen as a religion-converting-class. My teacher does not attempt to convert my class in any way, but instead teaches so well that we grasp the concepts of belief that take hold of so many of its followers. I, myself, occasionally considered converting once to a Jehovah witness and a Protestant. When I noticed that after our lessons I began to seriously ponder deeply into the religions that we had discussed previously in class, I begun surveying my fellow classmates to see if I could find a similar trend. As expected, I found that they were experiencing the identical, deepening thoughts of foreign religions as I had. Except they saw these newly taught ideas from many different viewpoints.

Two females and one male contained the same thoughts as I had. One had recently became agnostic; confused at the many reasonable religions that could possibly be correct one. One Catholic believer became an atheist for the same reason a former agnostic became atheist. When I asked why, they both gave me the same explanation. They had come to see religion as a way to explain unknown occurrences, the hostility or dependability of the land they lived on, or was in a certain persons best interest. My two believing classmates accepted this “fact” (as it was to them). So I’ve come to ask is it right that World History changes the perception of many of its pupils? I’m not quite sure what to consider it as. Please leave your comments. Thank you and if you feel like you would prefer to leave an extra comment, feel free to e-mail me. 8-)

It DOES seem possible to be 'raped' by love, but how to be raped by Truth-truth is truth when benevolence remains a part of it

the fact that millions witness "an apparation" so to say in bodily form who they believed was the virgin mary ( mother of Jesus) floating ontop of a church... not only on one occasion, and this was not only witnesses my christians, and muslims, but by atheist. There were no devices found which would potray this image within a fifteen mile radius, or anything that could explain this. I just like to know how would you as a non-believer explain this? Please don't tell me everyone who witnessed it were just hallucinating... because it was captured by the media in pictures and so on.

Would you agree that the people who created religion, had a strong fear of death, knew that everyone else feared it too....and took that fear to their advantage so that they could have order? Think about it. When there was no religion around, people must've driven themselves crazy fearing their deaths. So, they imagined a "creator". One that loved them. They imagined a heaven, where you would go when you die (but only if you follow certain rules). If you didn't follow those rules, you'd go to a different place where you'd suffer for all eternity.
Just the story sounds to me like religion was created to make order and control people. What better way to control people, than their fears?

Years ago I met a pagan/atheist who believed in forces unseen and practiced witchcraft. How does one rectify no belief in God, yet they engage with forces unseen and believe in their existence?

I know I couldnt be the only one in this situation, so I need advice. My mother is a devout Catholic, and I mean DEVOUT! Shes probably more strict and devout that 95% of average priests or nuns! Im not joking either...
I have struggled with faith all my life and as an adult have decided that I do not believe in any particular organized religion. I believe in a God and living an honest, moral life and thats it.
I am 24 years old and my mother has no idea that I feel this way. For all she knows, she thinks I go to church on sunday, read the bible and pray the rosary. It's killing me inside to keep living this lie to her and I am getting married soon and I know all of this is going to come out in the open because of the wedding etc.
I'd really like some advice from people who are in my same situation. How do you deal with a parent making you feel guilty for no longer following the religion they raised you be? How do you deal with their lectures and tirades about going to hell?

If God were here wouldn't he have the bare minimum for survival and give all other wealth and possessions to the needy? So, if you are Christ-like, shouldn't you take a vow of poverty?

Ok... so there is a nun out there claiming that her Parkinson's was cured by Pope John Paul II... What?! WHy can't people fathom that there may be another explanation... something else that caused her basal ganglian dopamine activity levels to increase or whatever causes Parkinson's? I don't get this at ALL. There has to be an explanation and it is NOT making Pope John Paul II a saint! Geez.

ponder what I am saying before you answer~ did you have a loving relationship with your father and did he set rules and regulations and sometimes get angry when you were disobedient, did he provide for you and teach you how to love and respect your mother?
If you did have that, then how is it, I wonder, why you cannot relate to a loving heavenly Father, who receives you with unconditional love because of what His only begotten Son did in your behalf and wants to do you good? We all are sinners and we are saved by His Grace, none of us are "good" when compared to a Holy perfect God~please ponder this, not as an insult or forcing anything on you, just to meditate on it and if you choose to respond after thinking about it, please show respect in your response~I mean this with the utmost respect, not criticism or judgementalism or condemnation; simple and pure and honest question: I know you are all intelligent, but again I ask you to "listen" with your heart; I mean no offense

I figure radical Islam would mean the following
preaching hatred of the West/Europe,
exhorting people to join Jehad(Holy War),
committing acts of violence/terrorism in the name of religion,
honor killing of women,
forced marriages,
& basically going about affairs in a generally un-democratic manner.

Please spare me the answers such as "bomb the **** out of them".
