I'm not sure when it comes to myself. There were several occations that seem to have been a shorter or longer step in that direction.
One thing I want to describe now is about my confirmation in the teens. I live i a country that was once considered lutheran. That's a kind of protestantism reaching for catholicism as I've understood it.

I was a very shy an cautious boy for the most part. But I teased one of my two best friends at the time because he was going to go in the front and exposing the big cross on a stick. I didn't mean for our teaching preast to hear it, but he did.
What he had to say about my transgression was that the other guys mission was one of honor.
He did not say anything more. No explanations.
I think I lost just a little bit of the trust in the authority in christendom. I was very disappointed at the moment I guess. Was this all he could provide as a defence for his religion?

This was only a minor, but yet a step in the direction for me to become an atheist.

There is a recent contraversy over a chocolate sculpture of Jesus Christ. I won't post a link with a picture, but I would think that if you Google "Christ" and "Cosimo Cavallaro" then you will find it (there is an Esquire article about it).

Many Catholics are outraged at this because it portrays Christ as a man. Since he is the son of God, would that not make sense?

Besides, why would you assume that Christ was crucified with a loincloth? Seems like the Romans may view that as a waste of cloth. We make many assumptions about Jesus Christ, anywhere from him being white to him being clothed.

Naturally, the nutcases are offended at this portrayal (as they are offended at every other portrayal). What about the average believer? Offended or no?

Mar 15:7 And there was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection.
Mar 15:8 And the multitude crying aloud began to desire him to do as he had ever done unto them.
Mar 15:9 But Pilate answered them, saying, Will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews?
Mar 15:10 For he knew that the chief priests had delivered him for envy.
Mar 15:11 But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them.

So who was Barabbas, and what did the chief priests have to do with him?

When I was religious, I used to think that not only did God exist everywhere at once, but also at every point in time. So when I prayed, say, to do well in an exam, I would pray to do well in my exam on the 30th March 2007. I thought that if I didn't specify a time, God might help me with an exam that I did ten years ago, or next week.

Anyone else ever do anything like this?

Proberbs 27:14 Says as iron sharpens iron so one man sharpens another. I never liked sharpeners until recently. Sharpeners are people that tell the truth even if it hurts and the point things out where one needs to improve, sharpeners seem well sharp abrupt always pushing you to do more even when you don't like to be pushed or feel you cant go another step They also put the finger where it hurts as well. Have you ever had a "sharpnener in your life" that helped you become a better person in your journey with the Lord? How has that person helped you to do better and become more? I realize not everyone can be mercy people and encouragers and that it takes different gifts in the Body of Christ to help and minister to different people.

why is it that religious people can't respect the beliefs of others? doesn't it say in the bible, and teach in the churches about tolerance? I don't disrespect christians beliefs, but feel that my beliefs are always under fire? Every one should respect everyone elses beliefs, regardless of what they are.

Have you ever taken God's counsel in James 1:5 to ask God if you should leave your religion? According to your doctrine, you are supposed to study the issue in your mind, then make your decision, and ask God if your decision is right.

"But, behold, I say unto you, that you must study it out in your mind; then you must ask me if it be right, and if it is right I will cause that your bosom shall burn within you; therefore, you shall feel that it is right." -Doctrine and Covenants 9:8

Will you study it out in your mind this weekend and ask God if you should leave the LDS Church?

Why would the Jews reject Christ? Isaiah the prophet predicted his coming in the old testament books, as well as many other old testament references to the messiah.
Jesus fit the bill for everything said about the coming messiah, God's son. What were the jews upset about, and why reject the very truth of God fro their own Gospels? I beleive a few select jewish leaders at that time, felt very proud of there position and thought Jesus was trying to turn the peoples attention away from them, to him. But these leaders made a horrible influence on their own peoples ability to see truth in the word God gave them. that he would send his son, a desc of David he would be of Nazareth and be the ultimate sacrafice. Why would the Jews forgo their own scriptural teachings, and trust their own opinion of who Jesus was over God's? why would they still be waiting for the messiah, when th eonly one predicted to come is the anti-christ? the next messiah they'll prob be believing in is only satan.
