why is it that religious people can't respect the beliefs of others? doesn't it say in the bible, and teach in the churches about tolerance? I don't disrespect christians beliefs, but feel that my beliefs are always under fire? Every one should respect everyone elses beliefs, regardless of what they are.

I don't think i as a Christians should have to sit down and be in a little box and not talk to others about their religion and not try to share mine, for fear of not being politically correct. Don't get me wrong i don't bash ppl, in stuff, but i'm not afraid to say what i feel is the truth, i don't go out attacking ppls religion, but i do share mine. I share my religion others share theirs.
Why can i debate my politically preference or if i like chicken or beef with someone but when it comes to religion i have to bite my lip and not share the very thing i try to live my life by and was ordered by the word of God to share, because i my offend someone. i don't set out to offend, but i may offend someone by the perfume i wear or the color lip gloss i have, we try not to but still ppl get offended and feel disrespected even if we were innocent in what we were doing. I'll admit some Christians may not be so innocent but i can only speak for those like me.

Sorry to have to be the one to burst your bubble, but, 'NO,' the Bible does NOT teach tolerance for other religions. Christianity claims to be the revelation of God to His creation, the only way to Him, and that all other religions are wrong. Jesus taught in many places that there was no other way to God but through Him.

I respect people's rights to believe what they want, or not to believe anything at all; however, as Paul wrote, "Knowing the terror of the Lord, we persuade all men." Jesus instructed his followers to go into ALL nations, and to preach the gospel "unto EVERY living creature (human being). He who believes, and is baptised, will be saved; and he who doesn't believe will be lost." THAT is why we take Christianity every where to everyone.

Do I beat people over the head with it? No. But as Jesus said of non-believers, "He who believes not is condemned already, for he has not believed in the name of the Son of God." We have a commission to take the good news to those who have never heard it, and to those who don't believe it. It's a delicate balance to not be overbearing about it, and we tend to err on the side of too much, rather than too little.

Believe me - I'm an atheist and have gone through and seen every ego and human dynamic around. You secretly crave the attention and the 'victim' status because it defines your specialness. If you dropped all of this specialness-seeking and didn't seek to try and get others to 'respect your beliefs', you wouldn't have a problem. I have beliefs but I couldn't care less if people around me know what they are -- been there and done that. Now, I don't need to have my specialness promoted by 'expressing' my beliefs in front of others, especially those whom I know will take issue with them. I just like to hang around people and I don't really care about trying to present my beliefs, no matter how much they express theirs. It's just too much ego garbage.

The Bible does not teach tolerance as it is defined today. However, it does teach to be as wise as serpents, yet gentle as doves. It also says to be ready and willing to give a reason for the hope that is within you as well as freely you have been given, so freely give.

It is only the ignorant or the impostor that act disrespectful. I have run in to many.

Yeah, it is called being nice, and unless they are religious fanatics that are trying to Rule the World, or get really mean and do mean things to people, we should try to be nice.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if everybody was nice to each other, whether they were saved or lost?
We have freewill and we can choose to be nice, if that is what is called for.
Other than that, Defend Yourself!

I really am entitled to my opinion that some beliefs are not worthy of respect. You are free to disagree with me.

May God Bless you.

I am a Religious Scientist. We are very respectful of all religions - and celebrate the goodness of all of them. All of the major religions have sayings about how we should love each other.

People who think their way of getting close to God (that would be their religion) is the ONLY way - sadly - are promoting the hateful differences that start wars.

Namaste!!

absolutely. you're right, people should have respect for other beliefs even if they don't agree with them. everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but they don't have to be rude to others when voicing those opinions.

testing ones beliefs through argument is the first best way to strengthen your own self. If you find yourself weaker then it is best to question what you believe.
