I refuse to live a life based on fear. I once thought I could not face the world, with all its harshness and many dangers, without religion, but I was wrong. I discovered that I could face reality with my eyes open, my back straight, and my mind open. I stepped from the shadows of fear and superstition into the light of reason.

What convinced me that there is no hell to worry about? Many things, but most of all this: no crime, however heinous, deserves eternal punishment. That's not justice. A truly just and loving god would not condemn his creations to eternal punishment merely for being unable to believe unbelievable things.

If you're scared, than you need to do some serious soul searching, and figure out what you truly believe. I'm not a christian, and I'm okay with that, because I've soul searched and figured out exactly what I believe. Don't worry, I don't belive that there is a hell either. I believe that there is a reason for everything, which is why I have the abillity to CHOOSE what I believe, not just believe what I've been told. That's just dumb. Come up with your own beliefs, becasue that's what sets you apart from everyone else. It takes courage to stand up an state what you believe. And if you're still doubting, do some research. Read up on different religions, and figure out which one fits you the best. And there may not BE own that fits you best, which is okay too. (I did that and developed my own "religion" and I'm happier that way) I hope that helps you out! Ciao!!!

Just to let you know there is a Hell. I would be scared if I was you just to know you could be one heartbeat away from Hell. Please listen ! The Bible talks about hell in the book of Revelation 20:14-15 says And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. But the good news is God loves everyone. John 3:16 says For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever BELIEVETH in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. But the choice is yours to accept or reject! I deserve Hell!
Romans 6:23 says For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
It is very clear that eternal life is a free gift , just accept. Pray anwhere, anytime and ask him .( Hopefully soon we dont know when he will return) Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. I hope you will ! Such peace you will find and no fear of death!

Well, there is being a "Christian" and there is "Being" a Christian. Being a "Christian" is nothing more than entering into an elistist club. Only people like them are allowed to be saved, even to the exclusion of others who call themselves Christians. This set reminds me of the Pharisees who Jesus condemned. "Being" a Christian simply means being Christlike. I know many here who are not "Christians" but who I would consider more like Christ than many who claim to be Christians. In that sense, I would consider them "being" Christlike, even though their beliefs may vary greatly. If I were you I wouldn't be afraid to leave the social club...it took me a while, and it was difficult, as I felt I was betraying all that I have ever been, but now that I have I find so much freedom. Freedom to "be" Christian. Blessings in the Light of Christ!

I used to feel that way a bit. I don't believe in it any more. It doesn't make sense to me that God would send a good person to Hell just because they didn't believe. People feeling pressured to believe out of fear doesn't seem right to me. I think people should be religious because they really believe.

...and with good reason! The church, unwittingly has turned Jesus' "good-news" on its head.

Jesus brought a message that guess what, - God doesn't really hate all of you - he loves you and you're okay - and since you need to think your sins have been atoned for, I'll be the sacrifice. Then you can breathe easy, knowing that you're okay with God.

But the church, in it's zeal for control inevitably figured out that "fear" sells a lot better than good news. And so, they spun the message around and instead of teaching that God isn't mad at us, they teach that he is, still in fact pissed off and that we're going to burn in hell for eternity if we don't do what they say.

But ultimately, fear is not of God. If you're coming at life from a "Christian" perspective, just strive to love God and yourself and others and trust that you're okay with God, and learn to block out the negative nabobs of negativity that want to convince you that you're a wretch and that you need to be their bit** in order to find favor with God.

Good luck.

Fear causes a fight or flight reaction. Not a great foundation for you expressing your best possible self. Some will be glad that you fear, isn't that sad? Some will say that's what God wants, or it is safer, but what they mean is, they are scared too.

Regardless of fear or no fear, peer pressure or personal insecurities - you remain responsible for yourself and choices. That's a GOOD thing. What are you going to make of your self and your life? :)

Get a life will you. You need to come to terms with your own life.As long as you are happy and are not bringing harm to any one else. then i can't see what the problem is with whatever belief you decide to follow. Hell from what ever religion you look at has to be based on your own personal fears and perceptions. As long as your are at peace with yourself and actions throughout your life you will be fine.

I'm scared not to be a hindu
I'm scared not to be Jewish
I'm scared not to be a Muslim
I'm scared not to worship Zeus
I'm scared not to follow all the other religions and Gods out there because one of them may be right and then I'll be doomed.

The fear of God is the BEGINNING of wisdom; it is certainly not its end. If fear leads you to contemplate God, then you need to find a way to overcome that fear that you might have a real relationship with Him. The Bible teaches that the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever, so there is a sense in which that fear remains for the rest of our lives. It keeps us from totally going off the deep end. On the other hand, perfect love casts out fear, and fear has torment. He that fears is not made perfect in love. What then is the answer? Trust in Christ to save you from the wrath of God.
