When I was religious, I used to think that not only did God exist everywhere at once, but also at every point in time. So when I prayed, say, to do well in an exam, I would pray to do well in my exam on the 30th March 2007. I thought that if I didn't specify a time, God might help me with an exam that I did ten years ago, or next week.
Anyone else ever do anything like this?

No. Everything is done according to his will. He know what's in our heart and what's best for us. We may not like it when a prayer is not answer. there is also a scripture if two ore more believe and pray in agreement. Jesus will be in the mist and will answer your prayer. I think it all comes down to having faith and believing in God or Jesus.

I believe that since God is eternal and doesn't exist only within the bounds of time and space, even a prayer when the outcome is already possibly determined is not prayed too late. Like when the servant of Abraham went to get a wife for Isaac, he prayed that God would give him a certain sign and before he was even done praying, here came the sign. The sign was that Isaac's future wife would turn up and offer him and his camels a drink. If God was not already acting on his prayer, she couldn't have shown up before he was even done praying. Big God.

I never thought of it like that. I believe that god exists in and out of time, but I guess I have always felt that god knew what i was talking about. I don't pray a lot for things. I ususally just talk to god like i was talking to anyone else. I try to be quiet and listen, but I am not usually good at that.

I don't think that's an unusual thought. I know there are times I get very specific because I feel I need to specify exactly which particular day or date I'm talking about. I know God knows anyway but it seems important somehow.

I have done this. I have learned that when you pray it doesn't matter if you put a time and a date with it. God will answer your prayers when He knows that it is time to answer them according to his will for you. God may have known that you needed to fail that test and past the next one so he may not have answered your prayer for that test on that day. The next test you may need to pass so he will answer your prayer and you will pass the test. God knows what is best for us. We ask him for what we want and need in life but he is the one that knows what is true and when we need it. He knows our future so he answers our prayers based on what he wants or needs us to have according to his will. I have prayed for things and never received an answer to my prayers. I found out years later that I was glad that God didn't answer my prayer at the time that I prayed because I would've regretted it and would not have liked where I ended up if my prayer was answered.

Your manner of praying was related to your conception of God, which seemed, from what you related in your question, to have been a projection of very human qualities of being, as such you lacked an understanding of what is meant by the quality of God's being called omniscience.

God is your creator, and the creator of the immense universe and all contained in it. He knows you and what you need better than you do. When you pray to him, he already knows what you want even before you ask. He also knows if it is best to answer no to your request.

No. God knows exactly what we mean and answers specifically in such a way that we know that He did, otherwise we would never have a way of knowing and being blessed by that.

No I have not, because my thoughs on God did not come from my own creation. I did not make Him into my own image. did not cast HIm into my image of who He should be or what He should do. I studied who He says He is and obeyed Him.

Not exactly like that, but yes. It pays to be specific. Although usually I find general time phrases to be sufficient, like "next" or "today."
