Some of you may remember me asking about my needy neighbor knocking on my door. He has not knocked in one week and I have done some inner searching during that time. I decided I may have issues with wanting to control things. I also do not speak up enough. I did some reading and learned not to offer advice if I don't have to. For example, yesterday my neighbor was sitting in his truck in 95 degree weather because he was waiting for the condo manager to come back so he could drop off his new lease in person. I wanted to offer advice such as dropping it into the mail slot so he wouldn't be waiting in such hot temperatures. I bit my toungue and did not say a word. My point is I think I offerred too much advice to him in the past and thus am partially responsible for him wanting to talk to me so much. Thanks to everyone for helping me see this.

My granny taught me to eat with one hand under the table, bringing the other up only to cut food.

I don't see this much anymore. Is it becoming a thing of the past?

Brief background: I'm 23 and my mother died when I was 16. My dad suddenly remarried a few months ago. I try really hard to get along with my stepmother, but she is very difficult sometimes. (I'm not the only one who has a hard time with her!). She gets jealous when I spend time alone with my dad and tries to limit our time together. She also tries to boss me around and tell me what to wear (which is laughable as I've been living on my own for 5 years now). I am always nice to her but I don't especially want to be close to her.

Recently she's been showering me with presents. It sounds like a nice thing, but she hounds me about them. I thank her for the gifts and I write her thank you cards, but she will pester me if I don't use one of them. She got me a gift card to a store which I am saving for when I need it and EVERY TIME I talk to her, she asks me if I've used it. I don't know what to do.

I've been living with this girl for over a month - she never locks the doors, never takes out the trash (she'll put out her own trash bag instead of taking out the communal trash). She never cleans her hair and she sheds like a dog (I have very short hair and only do my hair in my room). She continually leaves dirty plates on the countertop (even though we have a small roach problem) and has left a dirty pot with oil in it in the oven for over a week. She also says she only likes to clean with wet paper towels and doesn't believe that disinfectants/cleaners like Lysol do any good because they leave 1% of germs there. So far, I've been doing the cleaning and taking out the trash without saying anything, but I don't know how much I can take. We signed a lease for a year (I didn't know her be4 she was a friend of a very good friend, so I guess I could be blamed) so I'm stuck here. She's not an outright slob and I don't want to be a *****, but she's very inconsiderate. What do i do?

My widowed father has recently married a lovely woman who was previously divorced. My siblings and I are adults, married with young kids ourselves, and now we have adult step-siblings. Our step-siblings' father (who lives about 6 hours away) has terminal cancer, so now we're wondering if we should plan to go to his funeral, if/when it comes to that. We would like to establish good relationships with our step-siblings, whom we barely know. They all live long distance from us, and we only met most of them the weekend of the wedding. Logistically finding childcare and taking time off from work, etc will be a hassle for us, but just wondering what the etiquette is for this. Thanks in advance.

About a month ago I was at a bar with a couple of my friends. We were all just minding our own business and this man who must have been in his sixties kept coming over and bothering us. He was so drunk he could barely stand and he absolutely reeked of mariuana. Also, he was carrying this small cooler around with him and he kept throwing it around, and he kept knocking over chairs. At one point, I was at the table by myself, and he got right in my personal space and actually tried to have a feel. The waitress finally told him to leave me alone. My friends and I left the bar to get away from him. What should I have done?

Personally having never smoked, i was looking forward to the smoking ban, being able to gou out and breathe decent air and not stinking of smoke when i got home.
However now that you walk down the street, and see hoards of people standing outside pubs, half drunk, smoking , being loud and generally doing what you do when your drunk, i think that it is now a bad idea, as it doesn't really paint a good picture for the upcoming generations who have influential minds. As well as not looking good with tourists.

Do you see any other disadvantages for this?

issue where a woman was asked to cover up.

Isn't this the "land of the free"

I felt that it was inappropiate to make such a request...

Okay, so I'm asking this question on behalf of my brother. He is a freshman in college and has been there for a week now. He has two roomates - one of whom he has been friends with for a long time and one who he first met when he moved in. Since they are in a triple, they are living in very close quarters. They will soon be offered the oppertunity for one roommate to move out and "de-triple," if you will. You would assume that the guy who my brother and his friend just met would move out, but he is refusing to. It is not possible that he has already become so close to his roommates that he doesn't want to leave. If they say no to this offer now, they will be stuck for the rest of the year. It just isn't right to live in such tight quarters when they don't have to. How can my brother and the other roommate convince him to move out?

My brother asked me if he can come visit me. I told him yeah. I even offered to pay him a Greyhound ticket round trip. then he switched his mind because he's afraid that my mom will find him, stalk him, & cause all sorts of trouble. I don't blame him for that reason because that's true. The problem is that I moved & got a new apartment, & my mom doesn't know where I live. But my brother thinks I'm trying to trick him into dealing with her. I haven't spoken to my mom in over 3 months because every time she comes around, the cops has to be called. He thinks I'm still associating with her undercover, but I'm not. How can I convince him?

My husband just deployed to Iraq, we found what we thought was a really nice condo back home to rent while he is gone, day 1 we left and upon return we see 3 or more little hoodlums pushing my sons fisher price car that we left in our BACKyard about as fast as could be, my mom went up to the little girl who was in it and asked for it back, since then the GHETTO AS HELL butchy looking broads, sit outside their house and "MAD DOG" us as we walk or pull up, the fathers drive past and "MAD DOG" us with their stereo systems bumping as loud as possible, my mom visited me and the little bastards dug mud from my front yard and smeared it on my moms car and window, they took my doormat (parents did make them return) it just seems as though they are really uncooth, kids carry large rocks and threaten other kids with them, is there anything I can legally do to protect me and my family from these heathens from hell? they dont own this property and I hate that they act as though they do, pleasehelp

Lady #1--My husband took our neighbor's garbage up to the street to be nice, and when he got home from work, she had taken HER garbage can back to the alley where the garbage cans live, but left ours by the street. I thought this was rude. And before anyone asks, she's perfectly healthy, it wouldn't have been physically difficult for her to take ours also, and we live in an extremely safe town, so it wouldn't be dangerous for her to stay out there longer or anything. Even if she had her hands full, the alley is only like ten feet from the street and ten feet from the house, she could have put down whatever she had in her hand, and gone back for the second can.
Lady#2--I don't know my husband's ex fiance who is his daughter's mother, but I sent her an email when I heard about the Mattel lead paint toy recall, and it was nice and friendly, and I made a point to be like, "just in case you weren't near a TV to hear the news" and she didn't write me back
Aren't they both being rude???
