I think verbal slautations mean much more than a $5.00 piece of paper that gets tossed eventually anyway unless you are one to save evey card you ever get. It is such a waste of money and unnecessary. I think it's nice to send cards to kids but for adults....very unnecessary. People who tend to get bent out of shape for not receiving a card should count the blessings that they have instead of sulking over a piece of paper that didn't come in the mail. There are more important things to get upset about.

If they call I am happy.
I live on about 1500 miles from my family and I talk to my parents weekly and my brother & sister about every two months. Usually when I send presents, they are late, but I make it a point to call them on their birthday.
Since I am two hours behind them I sometimes call the day before (if I think of it) and wish them a happy birthday just in case something comes up and it is too late to call them (I don't call anyone after 9pm)

What is most important is the recognition of your birthday. A card will one day be thrown away, but the feeling of someone calling to remember your special day will be a lasting memory.

I got over not getting birthday cards, especially after my job kept me tied in knots to where I was forgetting to send cards too. That gave me some perspective on how busy people get and things slip the mind.

No I would not be bothered. I would be happy with the call. I think a call is better because they went out of their way to cal on your actual Birthday

It doesn't matter to me at all. It has been years since we exchanged birthday cards. In fact it's a load off our chests. Why put so much importance or significance on your birthday? Why be so self-centered? If they give you a call on your birthday, count yourself very lucky. I neither call nor send my siblings any birthday wishes and vice versa. We are fine with it. That doesn't mean we don't love each other.

Actually I rarely receive a card or a phone call for my birthday so neither matters to me.

Frankly, I don't even care if i get a phone call. My kids and husband wish me a happy birthday, sometimes we go out to dinner, sometimes there's a gift, but not always. That's enough for me. People make way to big a deal about birthdays in my opinion.
