my frist time going to homecoming and i was wondering how formal is it?

I dont have a suit and i dont really want to spend too much money on a rental but not go to far at the same time

No rental necessary. A suit would be nice, a jacket and tie would be just fine. Pants, button up shirt and tie is definitely acceptable. Just have fun, is the only priority.

Wow, ask someone on the comittee what the dress code is, it varies from school to school. Our dance was cocktail dresses, the guys wore suits, and not necessarily with a matched coat and pants.
Or ask your date, she might know.
For the game, just what you would always wear, unless you are a King candidate, or the date of a Queen candidate, then you would wear a suit at least for the time you were being presented. For just normal people, I remember we dressed up just a little for the game, tried to wear something a bit nicer than shorts and a sleeveless top. I'm from the midwest, it was still hot here!

At my school we have a theme. And you can go in theme, but a lot of people go casual formal. For example one of my friends just put on the nice shirt under the suit but left the jacket home. But it's whatever you want really. Some people went uber formal and others went pretty casual.

I think that a nice pair of slacks, a dress shirt, a blazer, and a tie are probably fine. Ask around for what your friends will be wearing or check last year's yearbook to see what style people dressed in.

I'd ask around and see how everyone is dressing....If they are dressing up rent you a nice suit the pictures will be around for a life time.

Find out from upper classmen or whoever is on your homecoming committee how formal the dance is. My school held semi-formal homecoming dances while other schools held casual homecoming dances.

Most of the boys here just wear a shirt and tie with dress pants.
