Does a wedding shower take the place of a Bridal Shower or is it just another way to get gifts.

A wedding shower is just another name for a bridal shower. And yes, the point is to "shower" the bride with gifts. But not as you say "to get gifts." That would imply that the bride is throwing the shower for herself. Bad, bad bride. The shower is given by a close friend (or possibly relative) of the bride. One who cares deeply for her and wants to make sure that she has all the household items she will need to set up housekeeping once married. If we did a bit of research, I wouldn't be surprised if we found it is a tradition that came in to practice instead of dowries.

A wedding shower is a bridal shower. Sometimes they will just be girls (which is usually called a bridal shower) and sometimes it will be couples (usually called a wedding shower). I guess you could look at it as one more way of getting a gift. But now days, people can register for gifts for any occassion so go for it if you're looking to get in on the gift action.

A wedding shower is the same thing as a bridal shower.

The wedding shower can include the groom, and is usually for your families.

The bridal shower is usually something thrown by someone in your bridal party, and consists of your friends, not family.
